avoiding dogfish??? any solutions???

#1 Post by sea serpant »

has any1 out there got good solid advice on how to avoid dogfish... from dublin to wexford seems to be just alive with them and although catching them can be better than blanking im i find it next to impossible to target other species as within seconds of my baits hitting the sea bed the dogs are all over it   i have tried all sorts of baits and although fish baits attract them most i have had them on everythin even frozen black lug . They seem to be more alive at night but thats wen i do most of my fishing :( is there any useful ways of avoiding them while i concentrate on other species in the same area's... a solution would be highly welcomed :D tanxs....

i'd use mackerel, sand eel and squid...they hate those baits!!!
Seriously, Try lug and maybe mussel....they eat pretty much every bait once they are in the packs....start fishing comps...I never seem to catch any when I want to so maybe that's the answer!!!!!

I've found that if you tip off with anything shiny and silvery it attracts the dogfish in so I try to avoid using mackerel or sandeels where I know there is a few of them about.

I havent come across too many of them so far this year,,,,,,,you must be just unlucky to be plagued by them,,,,,,,,,,,,,sometimes I find that prayer helps when im in danger of blanking,so you could try praying that they leave your bait alone .Hope this helps
