Donegal Thornie mark

#1 Post by rodbender »

Having not been out in months due to family illnesses and bedside vigiles I finally got a 3 day break. A PM to Don and I was off, arriving at the mark at midnight it was a millpond, a slight breeze and warm enough even standing in a tshirt. Put the head down and grabbed a few hrs sleep. Started to set up at 7am and cast 2 weights out to check lines, just as well. Had to replace line on 1 reel and finally started fishing 8ish. Things were very slow, no bites and baits coming back untouched. Don arrived abt 1030 ish I think and after a quick introduction and update set up his gear. A couple of hrs later and much banter and coffee I finally hit a fish but it didnt feel Thornie like. Reeled it in to find a nice we Thornie at abt 3lbs. A quick pic, fish returned and we settled down again hoping this was the start of a good session but sadly the only fish landed although we did have a few missed bites. Don left for the spuds abt 1800 and I was fishing on till 2000 before going to Teelin. He was barely out of sight and my rod bounced and I struck into my second thornie, a minute thing barely makin a half kilo. New bait on and ten minutes later another good knock and a better fish this time 2.25k on the scales. A further fish landed at 1930 made 2.67 the best of the day. Time to head on but got a phone call on the way , mother in law rushed back to hospital so had to head for home. Incidently met Big Bad Tom, Great bloke and damn good laugh, maybe next time we can stretch a line together.
