info on good lures needed for a beginner?

as a beginner to lure fishing i was just wondering what besides rod, reel, braid and flourocarbon are essentials i might need to start for bass and pollock?? im talkin lure wise like wat are a few good lures in both hard and soft plastics that i could pick up next time im in the tackle shop??

Run while you still can mate if you start lure fishin there is no going back you will be hooked for life have a look on the lure section on this site and have a look at the probassfisher site

Caught my first few bass last Summer, all from lures. I would still consider myself a novice lure fishing for bass but can only recommend the lures which worked for me:
1oz. silver toby (Abu Garcia) and Xlayers with 12g jig heads.

Soft lures

try senko worms from Gary Yamamoto, Wave worms which are tougher than senkos in the cast and last longer, xlayers are superb - most softs are superb only when conditions get difficult or for specific presentations

As you can see once you start it never stops - be aware the lower priced lures catch as many fish as the expensive ones however they may not last as long - the lures highlighted above in red are very recommended from a modern lure point of view - believe me after 8 years as a full time guide I know.

many people will have different opinions for you.
ENJOY - surface fishing is addictive - be warned. Its the only type of lure fishing I do these days.

All the lure that Jim listed down are good and proven,Spook Jr use to be my favourite other than sammy....just remember that its not only bass and pollack that u can target in irish water....ask Jim...he do know a lot of modern sw lure fishing technique....he just keep it quiet..

I've recently had the pleasure of a few hours fishing with keith from jerseybassguides. The guy's fish mad, and a wealth of info on Bass. Typical guide, part genius, part mountain goat...........

Bass bandit can be good

If you are not too worried about the bass, try some cheap metal lures as well such as tobies, kiltys, german and norwegian sprats etc. They work fine for mackerel pollack and coalfish and will even tempt sea trout. I've even had ballen wrasse take them when there is sprat or sandeels in the area. The problem with metal lures is that they do disturb the area once you have been thrashing away for 10 minutes plus, but as a beginner, it's a cheap option...
