525 or rod problem?

#1 Post by mtb »

Cheap rods and expensive rods seem to come with the same low quality fixings

I've rods from Greys, Penn, Century, Abu and Shakespeare and they all come with reel fixing that eventually gave the same problem.

I use 525 reels.

The Greys was the worst in that the reel seat could not secure the reel at all.

The 525's have a thin mounting. This means the screw fitting on the rod has trouble securing the reel unless screwed up really tight. After a couple of outings the fitting on all rods screws back down the thread but leaves the clamp behind it with the reel stuck on the rod.

Needless to say I now use coasters

fugi reel seat are the only way to go but all reel seats need a good clean after fishing or they will not last
