Weather was amazing leaving derry and the whole way down,leenan was windy and icy cold and very foggy
mackeral and prawns
1/2oz lead weight and single hook
Results 4 coalies and 2 flatfish(not sure if was flounder or plaice or what,both of them looked different)
started off really brightly in the first hour,all fish being caught within the first hour.few bites after that but nothing else.great to get out for a bit,even though it was freezing
didnt bring camera because wasnt too hopefully of getting anything

Welcome to the forum. Did one of the Flatties have Bright Orange Spots on the body and fins, if so it was most likely a plaice. A Flounders spots are a dark Orange normally.

yeah this is what i was thinking originally
one was bright orange spots which i thought was a plaice

Without getting into any form of the usual Flounder/Plaice misidentification debacle, there is no way of recognising the difference between the 2 from the shade of colour orange of the spots I'm afraid. Take a pic or two next time you are out and post them up, once you have one identified for you you will be grand. Well done on getting out and welcome to the forum. Any sign of the Turbot appearing off that pier yet?

nice session there mate, was down at that pier on saturday and had coalies on near enough every cast, close in and on the rod at distance, but there were no size to them, all were very small...
