2 days in Co.Down 10th & 11th april

#1 Post by Al and Jordan »

People: me mark and jordan

Duration: 10th 2pm to 9pm & 11th 5.30pm to 9pm

Tide: 10th hw 9.30pm & 11th hw 10pm

Weather: excellent

Bait: rag, lug, mack, razor, prawn, squid and sand eel

Rigs: flappers and 2 up 1 down

Results: male dragonet, shanny, long spined sea scorpion, whiting and a pollack

Report: i'll try and keep this short as i'm getting ready to head out again today :D . we decided to try one of our summer rock marks on saturday. i thought we'd have relative peace as it's a bit off the beaten track, but we'd no sooner arrived and got set up as we saw 5 other anglers head our way. we moved over a bit to give 2 guys a chance to fly fish for pollack to our left and 3 young lads were spinning to their left too. the conditions were perfect, but no one had informed the fish about that  i got diddly squat on my bait rod and lost 2 pollack on a lure. my mate did'nt get a touch either and jordan saved our blushes and got a male dragonet :P :P . the other 5 lads to our left hooked 1 fish for the whole day and lost it in the kelp :( . but jordan was made up as he'd said from the start all he wanted was a dragonet, and thats what he got :P. i hooked into a big brown crab about the size of a dinner plate and my mate was licking his lips as he eats them. but it was only inches from the net when it let go of my rig and returned to the depths    .

DAY 2 BANGOR HARBOUR
we decided to give the minis a go to see if there was any about, but it was pretty quiet to be honest. i got 2 tiny whiting and a long spined sea scorpion and jordan got a shanny and a wee pollack and mark blanked again    . kerry 1 and her fella called down to say hi and ask for jordans autograph as they had spotted him in this months edition of total sea fishing     . he's already sent me out to buy multiple copys to keep all over the place   . one for his school bag, 1 for his mum's and 1 for his room     . i was just made up to see his wee face light up when he spotted his pic in the magazine :D :D :D

all in all not a bad weekend. not too much fish about, but with this weather it's just great to be out by the sea soaking up the sun

Well done everyone :D
Thanks for texting me yesterday Al to tell me about Jordan being in the magazine, you must be well proud of him. Well done Jordan.
It was good to see you's last night and meet your mate mark. When Norman and I first went down for a walk we didn't think anyone would be there so we got a surprise when we seen you's.

Nice Dragonet.

I assume the female of the species is a bit less vividly coloured.

I caught one at Donaghadee last summer and it was really drab in comparison with Jordan's.

start him on the float so he has something to keep his attention  . when jordan was 6 i got a wee bait net that we put out with a few old mackkie skeletons into. it kept him interested with all the sea life that came up in it when the fishing was slow  might work for your wee man too :P

Well done to Jordan on the dragonet - that's an interesting looking fish.
I saw Jordan's pricture in Total Sea Fishing yesterday - I dont normally buy it but I was travelling back from a meeting in the UK and picked up a copy in the airport to have someting to read on the plane - I would say he is well pleased alright.
