South Wicklow beach and Greystones Rocks,10th+11th April

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

South Wicklow beach :7-30pm-10-30pm
Me and Fishface,bait:Rag,lug,crab,squid,mack
Weather:Dead calm,not a ripple
Results:Fishface;2 x bass, doggie,he got another fish that i cant remember???
Eyes: 1 x bass, doggie and flounder

We're talking about schoolies here,i dont want to cod( ) anyone.I didnt take any piccies except one of a doggie as i didnt want to embarass Fishface with his serious angling buddies by taking pics of small bass.Nice night to be out,,,,,,,,,,,no bites during daylight,2 other serious anglers fishing from 5pm, no bites till darkness either  .We were fishing a part of the beach with a channel in front of us about 5 or 6 yds wide a couple of yds of sand on the other side.Fishface walked across the channel to get more distance but didnt realise how deep it was,,,,needless to say I stayed where I was.Nice to get the bass , which though small ,can still manage to put a wee bend in the rod.

Greystones Rocks:7pm-10pm
Me on me tod :) . Set up at my usual spot ,got talking to a guy I know from work who'd been there a few hours and blanked. I told him he would have caught something once it got dark but judging by the pus on his missus when I mentioned this,, he has to be home before it gets dark  .Thank God I married a saint and to all you single anglers out there ,,,,,,,,,,,choose wisely  . Back to the fishing,,,,,,,,,,,,I got a codling at distance of about 80yds out on the first cast  ,,,,,,,,,,mercifully the guy who blanked had packed up and left so he didnt see it but he hadnt been using worms ,,only squid and sandeel.I got 3 x codling before it got dark, and once darkness fell I started to get bites from small coalies in close,,,I got four of these which kept my interest for the night and stopped me packing away the small rod early. The distance rod was geting bites but I didnt connect with anything else, size 1 hooks on both rods .Last fish of the night was a pollock,a new species for the year, but I forgot to put my card beside it for the species hunt when I was taking a pic  ,,,,,,,,,,,,but i'll live  .The missus picked me up at 10pm and when i saw her smiling face I remembered the pus on the other one earlier in the night so I decided to be extra nice to her from now on

PS i PUT A PIC OF THE ROD TIPS IN AS I THINK ITS ONLY FAIR SEEING AS I SPEND MOST OF THE TIME LOOKING UP AT THEM,,THEY DONT GET THE RECOGNITION THEY DESERVE
