tangles with braid
Hi I,ve just started using braid on a fixed spool reel for the first time, great contact with the fish much more involving fight. However I have encountered a problem on some casts the braid is coming back in small tangles, these I cannot always untangle as the tangled knot is pulled tight when retrieving the lure. It was spooled on fairly tightly although I have it filled right up to the spool lip. The line in question is spider wire stealth camo 15lb braid, simple just because thats what my local tackle shop had in stock. Are thes tangles normal with braid or what can I do to eliminate them, also what are best knots to use when tieing on lure clips.
It's all about the fishing

Re: tangles with braid
I think its best not to spool your reel too much when using braid, this should help to eliminate the tangles you are getting.
Leave the line around 2-4mm short of the spool lip.

Re: tangles with braid
i used to get alot of tangles or wind knots ,i,ve found using 20 or 30 to be less prone to wind knots and always use ball bearing swivells if i,m spinning ,i bait fish with braid and have never had a wind knot on a fixed spool used for this alone so i recon its the lure,s spinning or maybe the lure twisting during casting that causes it ,what reel are you using maybe its not helping either?
i put the braid through my swivel eye twice then do a tucked half blood knot with ten turns
you can double the braid if you want but i never had a prob with the above

Re: tangles with braid
One of the main problems i have encountered with braid tangles is over filling the spool especially on the cheaper fixed spool reels where line lay is not the best, braid by it s nature is much rougher than mono and tends to drag loose coils off badly filled spools.
Casting light plugs or spinners with a side wind can also be a cause for line bunch and knots, another problem a lot of the pluggers have encountered with spinning reels is to return your bail arm manually otherwise it can leave a loose coil of braid and frap up.
i have been using braid for the last ten years or there about's and found it brilliant in certain situations.
