West Cork Beach: 10th April

#1 Post by Ronnach »

People: mise

Duration: 5pm - 9pm

Tide: ebb

Weather: warm, light breeze, cool later

Lures: xlayers, maria chase, patchinko

Results: blank :(

Went for my first proper lure session of the year to a well known west Cork beach mark. With the warm weather I was hoping that maybe the silver fellas would be around and starting to go for the lures. There was a light surf (which flattened out after sunset).

The water clarity was very good and not too much weed around. I tried from the rocks at side of beach for first 3 hours, mainly with Xlayers. On a number of occasions while looking at the small (around 2 foot) waves only about 20 feet out from me, just before the wave breaks I am almost certain I could see the dark gray profiles of fish swimming along the wave, parallel to the shore. This gave me some encouragement as I figured it could have been bass patrolling up and down for food. (Maybe they were mullet / sea trout though?).

Also a few times I saw fish jumping up out of the water some distance out (beyond my casting range), I guess these were sea trout jumping for flies.

Moved to the beach and waded out for the last hour's fishing without any hookups. Going to try again today at a different mark and this time catch high tide.
