Hi Lads.
Thinking of heading out to Dun Laoghaire hopefully this weekend if weather is ok. What would be the best pier to go off west or east? and whats the bottoms like, sandy, snaggy? Im a northsider so know nothing about the mark. Will do some research but just wondering if anyone had any advise on the mark. Any help much appreciated.

the west pier is prob the most well known and easiest to fish off.. fish straight off the very end of the pier out onto clean sand while the ground is fairly snaggy off the back of the wall. Use muti hook rigs small hooks and worm and fish baits for most success. To be honest i wouldn choose dun laoghaire as a venue to fish this time of year as at best you will come out with some very small flatfish or whiting or a stray dogfish
i could be wrong although if i was you i would head just slightly further to killiney, bray harbour or greystones preferrably at night for slightly better fishing. I do fish dun laoghaire in the depths of summer when the pier is at its best and throws up big pollock off the back of the wall and a mixed bag of fish on the ground but at this time of year id say it would be a struggle to do well. best of luck anyway

you will get the odd decent flounder off the end of the pier at this time of year and a few dogs at times too. there can be a lot of small dabs too. clean ground but rough around the base of the pier. 3hook flapper hard to beat with size 4's. sometimes the inside of the pier can fish good and wrasse and pollack can turn up early here. if it's calm and clear it can be worth floatfishing just past the kelp on the inside wall. not great at this time of year but where is
