Galway & Clare March/April 2010

#1 Post by saltydog »

People: Jakes, corbyeire, vinnycorrigan, lucky, chrisfeeney30, eointarmey, doggies3131, goldwing, kaylemf, baitdigger, gfkelly1969 and one or two others along the way...

Duration: average session about 6hrs

Tide: all stages

Weather: mixed

Bait: lug, maddies, razor, gaper clams, sandeel, mackerel, squid, white rag, bluey, peeler, wraps

Rigs: pulleys, flappers, up & overs 2 hooked clipped etc

Results: flounders, coalies, turbot, thornies, dogs,

Report: Been out a lot over the last while haven't gotten round to posting so here's a very brief synopsis:

West Connemara - 10.03.10

vinnycorrigan & myself fished a new beach mark for both of us busy from the off with vinny clocking up 34 dogs 28 dogs for myself and 2 coalies it was nice to have a busy session and after 4hrs we were outta bait so headed for home.

West Clare - 16.03.10

vinnycorrigan & myself bumped into baitdigger who was just about to finish up vinny had a few flounder and a couple of coalies first blank of the year for me fishing at distance with whole razors for Bass had two hits but failed to connect both times.

South Connemara - 17.03.10

lucky & myself went to try out a new rock mark i'd been looking at fishing into Greatmans Bay lucky had a good fish on looked like a doggie bite but then started diving for the bottom possible huss or ray decent bend in the rod let go about 20ft out... that was it will try here again in a few weeks looks as though it should produce.

West Clare - 19.03.10

vinnycorrigan, lucky & myself were back after the Bass again couple of flounders showing and coalies not one knock from a Bass all night looks like they've moved further South for the time being.

West Connemara - 21.03.10

Jakes, corbyeire, myself & Rolly(non SAI) Jakes hadn't been out in 2yrs so a plan was hatched to try a new rock mark in West Connemara then move on to a beach mark nearby later in the day. After a bit of a hike and falling face first into a bog   we got set up cracking looking mark deep water clean ground out in front could be pegged to hold a comp. We fished over LW with a lone dog to show for myself like the other rock mark in the South it should produce in a few weeks time...

We said goodbye to corbyeire and Rolly and Jakes and myself met up with doggie3131 and Goldwing at the 2nd venue the guys had been kind enough to suss out another mark on our behalf earlier in the day. Another busy session here following myself and Vinnys a couple of weeks earlier. Jakes was soon into his first fish in 2yrs a Thornie very dark in colour about 4lbs he clocked up 22 dogs also doggie goldwing and myself were kepy busy with dogs and watched a small to medium round fish swim the length of the beach in front of us about 3ft out pretty cool looking couldn't make out exactly what it was possible mullet.

Clifden Bay - 28.03.10

vinnycorrigan & myself having watched the youths fish all weekend fancied some action.. so we headed for a rock mark i'd gotten off gfkelly1969 over a year ago but never got a chance to fish it... we were straight into dogs & kept busy no Raymonds showed won't be long now.. we weren't fishing too long when the the man himself who gave me the mark arrived to go fishing nice to put a face to the name...

Inner Galway Bay - 31.03.10

Tried out the mark close to home fished it from HT @ 19:00 for 4hrs down had 1 dog over slack at HT and a double shot about 3hrs down no Raymonds this time.

West Clare & Salthill - 01.04.10 / 02.04.10

vinnycorrigan & myself are glutens for punishment and headed back to try for Bass thinking the recent blow might have them hungry for Razors.... nothing happening fished it for 6hrs over high and back down result 1 flounder for Vinny next Clare trip will be further South....

We were back at the car when Vinny had a txt from Chris saying they were setting up in Salthill with that we said we'd head over to see it anything was shaking that side arrived to find Chris Kaylemf and eointarmey set-up Chris had a doggie accounted for... the lads headed off at 03:00 myself and vinny gave it another hour nothing doing so home to bed for a 2hr sleep before work   :?

South Connemara - 03.04.10

lucky and myself set off for a South Connemara beach in search of dogs, ray and huss... everything looked good but the beach fished like it had been trawled fished from 19:30-02:30 with a dog for lucky and a flounder for me first flat i've caught here as usually we're blasting out baits for the big stuff....

the lads have some pics feel free to add them....

Hi Connor, had a couple of dropped runs on that mark where you called me, lots of fresh water there. Going back Thursday. Heard of some good huss nearby so will try for them Friday. Only stayed a couple of hours on the second mark plenty of small schoolies showing.
I was warned about posting locations of marks here as some commercial lads are using it to locate the fish. I think Mann has already commented on it but the lads are targeting pollack and are heading North.
The Truth is often stumbled upon by men, most of whom pick themselves up and hurry along as if nothing ever happened.

Good stuff Neil that mark we were at seems very dead all the coalies are gone off it I guess the Bass were feeding on them. I'll be out during the week myself i'll give you a bell Wednesday see how your fixed.... I know what you mean about naming marks stopped doing that a long time ago myself due to the state some of them were being left in by fellow anglers...I'm sure the commercials know just as much as we do about movements of fish but no point in putting them on a hot spot all the same.
