youghal beach 02/04/10
People:me
Duration:8 till 12
Tide:falling
Weather:balmy
Bait:crab
Rigs:flappers and pulleys
Results:3 bass 7 coalis countless codling
Report:had planned to head to a west waterford beach but when i spotted the surf on youghal beach i couldnt resist it.set up and ready to fish at 8 headed down to the waterline and flicked a 3 hook flapper into the surf about 20 yards out.on the way back to put the rod onto the rest i could feel the tip of the rod pulling back towards the sea thought to myself will have to put heavier weight on for the next cast.stuck the rod into rest and straight away it jumped back out of rest and the tip was pulling seaward knew it was not the surf but a fish.landed my first bass of the year a few mins later.it weighed 4.69lb.the following two casts produced another 2 bass weighing in at 2.4lb and 1.2lb. not a bass to be seen after that. every cast for the night found the fish mostly small codling with the odd coali thrown into the mix packed up at around midnight and off home with a bass for the pan only took picture of the fish i kept all other fish were released after a quick weigh

Well Done
Both good bass and good sized cod caught in the same session
Fair play to ye what did the moro weigh in at?
Fisherman's prayer:
God grant that I may live to fish, For another rainy day.
But when my final cast is made, I then most humbly pray.
When nestled in your landing net, As I lay peacefully asleep.
You'll smile at me and judge, That I'm "good enough to keep"!
