Disaster in Youghal!!!

#1 Post by zoolio »

Hi lads,

i thought i must report it here online, this is a shame whats going on in Ireland...

I went on saturday for fishing and there is a small pier in Youghal after the bridge an i have never seen something like that in my life.
A local fisher boat came in, about 20 ft and the guys was cleaning their nets. When i arrived the half net was already cleaned, but in the boat was still the most part of their net and the boat was full with dead dogfishes, crabs, etc. I could just guess about the number, but it seems to be approx. 1000 death dogfish, at least 1 tons. The guys just toke it out of the net and just throw them back into the water... yo can not imagine how it smells... in the front of the pier was the water still deep, abut 2 meters, but the ground snow white from the death fish-bodies....
I was so shocked, i haven't thought about tho take some pics......

Assertion of the fishermans: their net was about 2 weeks in the water, was not possible to get it out because of the bad weather conditions...

IF SOMEONE COMPLAINING AGAIN BECAUSE OF RECREATIONAL FISHING, WILL GET HIS BIGGEST A..KICK HIS LIFE!

Cheers,

Zoltan

I have seen similar on Ballycotton pier but there was not that much dogfish.

This must be happening everytime a trawler comes in. :x

I have only seen one small dogfish being caught this year.

Thats awful, but thats whats going on daily seeing it too many times and these are the same guys that will be fishing offshore[my eye] for bass should the commercial boys get their way, imagine the damage they will do despite obeying all regulations for an offshore bass fishery

I would have hated to have been there to see it, but as has been said already its going on all over, so all we can do is look on the bright side… There’s going to be some real fat Congers around there and no ground baiting needed,

No dude,

They will be ok for awhile as I invested in some new odour eaters for the waders
