Salt Travel Beach

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Salt Travel Beach

Bought one!

Image

Love me fishing and biking, so to satisfy my lust, I've added this to my collection of travel rods. I know it's not a true beachcaster, but it's as close as you're gonna get for a travel rod and hopefully no more standing on a faraway beach, wishing I had my beach rod with me. Bought it because I'd handled the ordinary salt in the shop, and I thought it might stand up to the rigours of being strapped to my bike. It's very sturdy with a fairly hefty butt end, which tapers very quickly to what looks like a nice sensitive tip. This baby looks like it could poke a weight out a fair distance, with a simple overhead cast. It is rated for 4-8oz weight, but I reckon it'll be happier with a 5-6oz. Anyway I let yiz know, as I'm using it on Thursday for the first. It comes wrapped neatly in a nice little rod bag, and 2 neoprene straps, all roled up nicely and shoved into a sturdy cordura tube. The whole lot not longer than 2ft, so it will sit nicely across the back of the bike. I might even get it into a pannier.

Ok, I promised an update, and here it is. Took the Salt Travel to a favourite County Down Rock mark ,today. There I learned a number of things. Including, fishing rock marks at this time of year during the day is a waste of time. My Penn Powerstix Pro, might not be the rod I thought it was, as the middle ferrul splintered for absolutely no reason. Finally, the Salt Travel Beach is an awesome piece of kit. With a 170g lead, and a simple overhead cast, (due to lack of room, no other cast could be attempted) I managed the guts of 90-100yds, without any effort. I am impressed. So much so that I could be persuaded to replace my powerstix, with a 13ft Salt........
