Ennerreilly 12/03/2010

#1 Post by dfella25 »

People:Gordy, Eric, Masterkeane & Myself

Duration:6pm till 1am

Tide:Rising HT about 12

Weather:Cold but dry with a slight NE wind.

Bait:Lug and Mack

Rigs:Three hook flappers, to hook flappers and the odd pulley

Results: Rockling, codling, Coalie and bass.

Report: After getting new Penn Twin tip rods myself and Gordy were dying to get out and try them. We decided to head for Ennereilly to see if any schoolies were showing up yet. I also wanted to try Sakuma hooks I'd got to see what they were like. We got down to the beach after the usual heavy N11 Friday traffic and set up. The weather was holding and there was a nice surf. While Gordy went with his usual set up I tried my new rod in close looking for some flats. Gordy was belting them out looking for his favourite fish. "Please God give us a Cod" he was muttering.

We fished for hours with nothing showing at all. All baits were coming back untouched. Thinking the Sakuma hooks were not working I tried Kamasans for a while. The Sakuma Mantra are a shorter length but a wider hook. Anyway still no joy by 8 when John and Eric arrived. They got set up and on their first cast had a rockling and codling between them! After that nothing showed for well over an hour and the chipper was seeing like a better idea then fishing!

At exactly an hour before HT the fish started to show up with us all getting schoolies and codling. The bass didn't break the 30cm mark but at least they are starting to show up. And I had a nice Coalie just shy of 30cm. All fish fell to straight lug. John had advised to me to use the softer tip for the rod and I had put 30lb braid on the reel. Seeing the bite detection of it I was delighted with it. And the Sakuma hooks did very well and I'm deffo going to get some more. The fishing died off after the tide turned and it was time to pack up and head for home. Eric took pics but seeing as he is not posting any more that's the end of that!

Nice one Conor, must try those Sakuma hooks myself, and funny enough Fishface outfished me there last week using just lug, while i was using lug tipped with either mack or squid. When I changed lug on its own I got bites straight away  . Were you fishing at distance or in close?

Funnily enough Dave they were out a bit further then I thought. Probably about 40 yards. Any time I went in close I got nothing.
