Summer Holidays 2010

Wife wants to go to Clifden this summer what is the summer fishing like in the area do you need to bring your own bait or can you buy or dig bait in the area.

Fishing should be good around then. You would be likely to get flounder and possibly turbot, thornback rays and doggies from beaches along with mackeral and pollack off the rocks, there are other areas for conger/gurnard/dab and others mentioned above! You could prob dig lugworm but it would rob be easier to bring most of your bait!

You will get by with fresh oily mackerel.

2013 species:(15) Whiting, Dogfish, Three Bearded Rockling, bull huss, poor cod,turbot, flounder,pollack, spotted ray, thornback ray, launce, corkwing wrasse, long spined sea scorpion, common blenny,mackerel,

2012 species: Thornback, bull huss, Dogfish, pollack, Mackerel, bass, flounder, turbot, conger,

fishing is pretty good in the summer,the thornback ray are like pin whiting and there are some good size bull huss around,10lb +,loads of wrasse,mackerel,pollack,flat fish,dogfish,conger,mullet,sea trout and even a odd bass,i hooked bass in the bay but lost them :cry:
you can buy bait in Stanley’s fishing tackle Shop is on Market Street Tel:(095) 21039 and Duane's Fish Shop is on the main street Tel:(095) 21084

you can dig lug on a few beaches in the area,if you want to use rag worm you better bring some with you
you can get the tides on http://www.sailing.ie/inside/default.asp?pageId=589 clifden is about 5 mins later

let me know what type of fish do you want to target and i will pm you details on the marks and how to get to them
