I'm heading to Dingle next week for the Cheltenham festival .
I hope to fulfill a lifelong ambition and as Luke Kelly said:
"Stood on Dingle beach and cast, through wild foam I found Atlantic Bass"
I have a few questions that hopefully ye lads can answer.
1: Are there many tackle shops there??
2: Do they sell bait?
3: Are there any decent rivers in the locale where I could do some Salmon fishing (for Springers....)?
P.S I have the Bob Moss books so I'm OK with regards shore marks but if anyone knows of anywhere that is fishing really well at the moment then let me know pls...
Hey, Garveys sports shop sell tackle, and there is a shop just to the right of it that sells pirks, lures, feathers and such also.. Garveys sport shop sell blast frozen bait, mack and sandeel mainly, and those overpriced 'variety packs', ya know the ones, 20 euro for a frozen mack, 3 sandeel and a crab. =o)
There is a fishmongers at the end of town , the way out to ventry end, and a fish monger trailer in the town a few das a week....
2016: dogfish, pollack,
2015: whiting, coalfish, turbot, pollack, ballan wrasse, conger, thornback, short spined sea scorpion , common blenny ,
Mark,
There isnt much in the way of tackle shops in Dingle, I usually stop off in Landers in Tralee on the way down. They have a pretty good selection of tackle and frozen bait. I'd also bring a fork if you have time to dig bait.
call into the tourist info center in dingle town at the harbour beside the fungie statue and ask for the "angling in ireland, south west region booklet" it has detailed maps of where to fish for all disciplines of fishing and maps of where to collect your own worms crab, and sand eels. it is a better book than some of the fishing books we've bought in the past and it will save you a fortune in bait
I'm gonna stock up on bait in Dublin before I leave (well frozen sandeels and lug....)
Got that booklet at the Angling show in City West allright and totally agree its very good. It just seems weird that an area of the country that is known for shore angling does not have any decent tackle shops ??
Just re-reading Bob Moss books at the moment so hopefully the information contained therein is still applies today . Was considering going out and gathering me own bait but hey lifes too short and I reckon I'll be nursing quiet a few hangoevers if Cheltenham treats me well.
Thanks for the tip on the Salmon river also.
Hey Dave hope to see you out on the Dodder again soon, just try and avoid the Patricks Day Massacre
Remember its all about the Grizzle Midge My final count on the dodder last year was 137 Trout (all on Fly) , biggest fish just over 2.5LB , smallest one the length of me little finger..
