South Arklow 28-02-10

#1 Post by herefishyfishy »

People:myself and dad (John)

Duration: 11.45 - 19.00

Tide: just on the way out when we arrived started to come in when we were leaving

Weather: lovely day not much wind lovely

Bait: lug, squid, mussel, sandeel, bluey

Rigs: me two hook distance rig, 2 hook scratching rig, & 3 hook flapper. John 2 x 2 hook flappers

Results: plenty of whiting & codling 2 x rockling (one each), 1 dab (to me), & 1No scorpion fish (i think will post pictures up tomorrow on my other computer as the picture is on my phone) (fish was mine) & also 1No seagull.

Report:
decided to head out on Sunday, was hoping to see the results up for the comp on saturday to see what was out there. got the bait of Tilley saturday night. On the road pick up John and off we went. got down to Arklow set up there was one angler there already must of been Connelly. I set up 3 rods why don't know, john fished 2 rods. i invested in a slosh 20 on saturday very happy with it. Bites we coming most of the time. Seen the broken glass in the carpark sorry to hear it was the lads in the comp. was fishing away and a lad walking 2 dogs came up to me looking to see if i had a pliers. The dog had got a hook through his lip, a rig that was left on the beach with some bait on it was found by the dog. Thank got i was able to remove the hook from the dog without to much problem, only good thing was the point did come out the other side of his lip. Just a note to the lads who were fishing the comp or other anglers please ensure that rigs are taken with you. they can do damage to kids or animals not nice if it happens to one of your own. As it did to to lads dog on this site a while back. Back to the fishing fish were coming in at all distances from 20 yards to over 120 yards. Must be 100's of small fish out there. great place to go to ensure you get some fish. the dab came in at 24cm and the whiting range from 10cm to about 25cm some codling were also to about 25cm nice and plumb all went back to get bigger for next year. the seagull was a poor unfortunate guy who flew across my just as i released a cast nothing i could do just hope it turned out the way in time. It didn't. Have to say thanks to Eric from here who was attending the Junior comp and seen the gull coming in backwards and came down to give a dig out. The bird was returned safely. so thanks again Eric for your help pity i met you like that would of preferred if it was a large cod you helped me with not the gull. all in all not a bad day out i got a new specie scorpion fish. well could be two if the gull counts no pictures so cant claim it can i?

Lug definatly fished the best. But as far as i know everything caught fish, just cant rememeber if sandeel did. As i was using three rods i wanted to know if all baits worked, so i used one rod just to try out all the baits. But Lug definately outfished the others. The L.S scorpian was caught on just squid (not tipped).
