I split this from the original but putting it in as the best Pound for Pound fight fish may not be the best heading.

Maybe the fish that nearly gave me a heart attack would a better heading.  :?

You know the way it is a non angler asks you what’s the biggest you ever caught. When the biggest fish you caught is not the fish you had the best fight from.

For me I had a 9ft. + blue shark on 33lb.braid on an abu 6500 that I brought to the boat 3 times.
Or maybe the 12.5 pound bass on an 8lb snood and a size 2 hook pulled through weed under Youghal Bridge.

I for one could not name any specific fish that would be my best fish ever caught but Pound for Pound it has to be…….a? When I get it I’ll post it here.

As for now the jury is still out.

Congers all the way. I'd agree that the mack put up good sport on light gear but they don't put much weight on the line. Do any of the tackle companies still make 1lb line?

A good mackerel on a light spinning rod (Cormoran Bullfighter) with 10 lb line and a small spinner can make for great sport. Have to say though that I had a 5lb Rainbow trout on a light fly rod with 6lb breaking strain leader 4 weeks ago. Now that was some fight, Stockie or not!!
List 2010. fish

List 2011: less fish

2012: less fish again,

2013: even less fish.

Mackeral or seatrout both great fighters. Followed closely by Thick lipped Mullet and Golden Greys.
