Hi,
Going for rock bass fishing this summer and was wondering what the best lures are. I have a red j11 rapala and a storm chugbug

Re: Good Bass Lures
These are my favourites in the 20gram (75mm lg version)
Don't really know much about Kells bay - sorry
I would be tempted to go for braid for what you are doing, 20lb with a 6' length of mono in 15lb, I find it a lot better for pulling out of snags than mono apart from better bit detection, I put the berkley whiplash crystal on the mitchell, it casts for miles and not one hint of a wind knot, it's a bit pricey, but it lasts for years, I have some power pro on a boat reel that's 10yrs+

Re: Good Bass Lures
Different lures seem to work in different places and under different conditions. Kilty seems to be a reliable all around lure. Feed Shallow has proved deadly for me this year. J 13 has caught me loads of bass around Dublin but does not seem to be good in W Waterford at all. Have bought Xlayers for next year as these seemed to be deadly for friends this year. I suppose to sum it all up you have to be adventurous. If one lure does not work on the day be prepared to take another one out and give it a lash!!

Re: Good Bass Lures
Hi there,
to be honest any lure can work on any particular day even the humble red gills and bubble float
.The best advice would be have a selection of lures that work differant depths,go for natural colours, the japanese stuff is deadly in plugs and soft plastics these days.Me personally i use storm thundertiks original for 3 to 6inches depths, aile sliders when the baitfish are about surface fishing or lucky craft sammys.Yo zuri crystal minnows for 2 to 3 ftand tide minnows are deadly down here in this zone also.J13's and bombers for deeper work along with 20grm kilty's.
Then you have the soft plastics ie xlayers, mother worms etc[ultimate angling],differant league to be honest but pricey but well worth it and in my experience will outfish most plugs, check out the likes of henry gilbeys blog or patrick gallagher's,these guys will give plenty of advice on what to have in your box.
Don't be afraid to chop and change and be prepared to move around and cast into any fishy areas.Best of luck its a minefield this lure fishing business but when you hook up oh my god its so worth it
Tight lines
Ps as regards kells bay,if your down that way check out the rocks on the left of rossbeigh especially at lw go for a walk you maybe surprised at whats about i know i was
