Cobh, 18th, 22cnd, and 25th Feb

#1 Post by Pat »

People:Me and at times a few others

Duration:3to 4 hour stints

Tide:Mostly rising but on the drop aswell

Weather:Cold and frosty

Bait:Crab, Lug, & Mack

Rigs:2 Hk Pats

Results:57 codling, 6 whiting, 3 coalfish, & 1 shore rockling (?)

Report:I thought I might take a leaf out of Frank's (Rockhunter) book and bunch a few of these reports together.

Feb 18th
I headed to the Park, a spot I really haven't fished at all for awhile. There were two other Cobh lads fishing already but they hadn't anything at this stage. It was just getting dark and as it did the bites started coming on. It was difficult to fish here as there were plenty of pots out in front of us. Nevertheless, it was manageable despite losing a few traces. We were kept going with a steady stream of fish, but, unfortunately, they were mostly small. I ended up with 21 cod, 4 whiting, & 3 coalies. However, in contrast to recent outings, very few were over the 30cm mark. I had only two  with the biggest going 34cm. The two lads fared out a bit better on the size front; one had a codling of 38cm; the other had four around 34cm.

Feb 22cnd
On this evening I headed back to the Baths. This spot had treated me well so far this winter. Again I had a steady stream of fish. This time a bit better with 5 of the 20 cod over the 30 mark with the best going 36cm. I also picked up 2 whiting and a shore rockling; well at least I think its was a shore rockling :?: . I'm never the best on species id. I'll put up a pic below and leave you decide.

On the same night John Bhoy32 and his buddies were fishing the Station Master's and their best fish went to 38cm. I decided the next night I'd give here a shot.

Feb 25th
Armed with fresh crab I headed off to the Station Master's. A good cast is required here if you are to get among the fish. Things started off slow enough. However, as the tide picked up so too did the bites....and the fish were a better stamp. Nearly all fish were above the 30cm mark :D . By the end of the session I had 16 cod, with many touching 40cm, and the best going 41cm. Now that's a better session  .

With fishing this good, I'm looking forward to the next light line comp which is on Sunday 14th March. See here for more details http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/bull ... 24&t=26236 Hope to see ya there :D .
