Seatrout in estuary

#1 Post by Deleted User 3977 »

Hi,
Small River down the road from me leading into an estuary. it doesnt completely fill up the river at high tide but there is a pool there. Bit of weed in the pool. Wonderin if I should try for Sea Trout with bait, spinner of fly down there. Heard there catchin them down there. My dad is not optimistic because he said 5 feet isnt enough to fish in there.
Cheers,

If you want to fish for sea trout you need a licence to do so.
If a fisheries officer is of the opinion that your are fishing for sea trout then you are liable to prosecution and a heavy fine.

I'm not been a spoilsport It’s the way things are.

A depth of 5 feet's more than enough to fish for sea trout.

And make sure the river is not closed for sea trout fishing - I've got two either side of me like that.

OH NO,
ITS ONLY 2 METRES ACROSS. ID CLASSIFY IT AS A BIG STREAM. ITS NOT EVEN ON A FISHING MAP. I HAVE THE OWNERS NEXT DOOR TO THE STREAMS PERMISSION TO FISH THERE

fish it with running bait, small spinning rod with light line, dont use a weight, just a swivel on the end of your line with two feet of leader to your hook, use earth worms as bait, any runs of fast water running under a overhanging tree, drop in your bait and let it run down the stream a short distance, then stop it and retrieve it VERY slowly, when you get a knock hold it in that position for a few seconds , then draw the line back and forth till you get a take.
running bait is a lethal way to get seatrout out of small streams....
as ole rab c said " see me' see the sea' i love the sea me"
right i'am off for a swally!!!!!!! so were's the F***'n purse!!!!!!!

depending on depth and strength of current you may need some weight ,and try the worm at night on the stream as well if the water is low and clear ,not sure if the worms much good in the estuary though ,maybe at low tide.
