Caught a large flounder on the 21st December 2008 at whiterock. It was about 7 am and the sun had just poked it's head over the horizon. I decided that it was destined for the pan and gave it a very firm whack with the priest.
I cut it's head off and put it back in the oven but by the time it came to eating it I was seriously put off, and I love fish. It tasted muddy by the way, but I'm willing to give it another try. Gurnard is fantastic and mac has to be eaten asap.
THIS POST HAS BEEN BUTCHERED BY THE MODERATORS IN CASE I MIGHT OFFEND THE ANIMAL RIGHTS LADS. I'M NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS. I SAID NOTHING MORE THAN HOW THE FISH WAS CLEANED, DEAD AND YET JUMPED DUE TO IT'S NERVOUS SYSTEM IN MY OVEN. COP ON LADS AND STOP BEING SO DEFENSIVE.

[quote="mann"]Lads,
I have never tried Flounder but after reading this I will be putting the cooker back into the boat, last summer i had made up a beer batter the night before going out fish
your problem with the beer batter is you left it over night it has to be used straight away
the beer sours if you leave it lie same as it would in a glass it cant be left any longer than an hour

Thanks for that Twinkle,
I will keep it in mind for next time.
Stephen
maybe you should try “Hot Smoking* the flounder, with a little salsa sauce it might get rid of the muddy flavour,

Re: eating flounder
Whats going on? half my post was cut out?! Jesus what are the mods up to? Are you scared that the animal rights lads will get annoyed at the description of me cooking a fish. Ye need to catch on lads. Is this a forum or a tea shop???

I agree with you Stephen8wood. This is an angling forum, are we supposed to "pretend" that we don't kill and eat fish?Stephen8wood wrote:Whats going on? half my post was cut out?! I've also experienced the ol' headless-flounder shenanigans
Back OT, always found bleeding the flounder made the flesh taste much better.
I like to cook it with plenty of black pepper and tobasco..... but then I'm pretty much addicted to black pepper and tobasco sauce, it goes on everything I eat!
Fishes live in the sea, as men do a-land; the great ones eat up the little ones.
