Seeing as nobody has replied: I fished at Newcastle a couple of times 3 or 4 years ago. I caught nothing until one day an angler who was packing up gave me what was left of his lugworms and I caught a couple of small plaice. I was fishing off the end of the harbour wall. Sorry I can't be any more help! I'm hoping to do some shore fishing this year and I'd be glad to share reports.I've heard of Bass being caught from the shore at Kilkeel. You might get some info from the staff in the Nautilus Centre.

Cheers Dommez. I come and go at fishing. A few years ago, maybe 6 or 7, I was thinking about buying golf clubs, then decided to get some fishing tackle instead and go shore fishing again. I fished for three years all along the coast from Ardglass to Greenore and I caught 3 dogfish, 2 plaice and 1 codling. I never had worms though, except for the day the lad in Newcastle gave me what was left of his bait.
I was talking to another angler at Greenore one day last year and I said it was a pity that the mackerel don't really show up now. He told me that the mackerel were showing up, six had been caught on the previous day! Depressing isn't it? Compared to when I did a lot of shore fishing years ago, there's not much there. Maybe if I had time to dig lug and rag I'd have caught more. I used fish strip, squid, mussels, prawns and even oysters, but no catches. I remember fishing in Carlingford Lough and pulling out dogfish till I was sick looking at them. Once got a Thornback Ray 8lb from Warrenpoint Pier. I was talking to a skipper on a fishing trip out of Bangor a couple of years ago and telling him about catching 13 varieties on a similar trip some years before. He reckoned to catch 3 varieties on a good day.
Maybe I need to go to Newcastle and dig a bucketful of lug and give it a good go when the tide comes in. I've wondered about heading for the inlet from Dundrum Bay to Dundrum Inner Bay and trying there. Anywhere along Murlough Strand in fact. I'd be glad to hear any info about that.
I used to catch plenty of fish at Ardglass along from the Golf Club House, though I never went very far along the course. You don't happen to know if there's any deep spots off the rocks there? I wouldn't mind catching a few Pollack or Wrasse.

Alex- Co. Down coast downwards is a place I have never experimented with. There is a few boys here that fish Donaghadee marks on the Ards penninsula who seem to get fish. Have a look through the previous report. They should point you in the right direction. As for baits different marks work weel with different baits- However as a general rue rag worm are about the best bait you can get (in my opinion anyway :? ). Try to find a shop nearby and see if he can order them in for you. Alternatively you can buy live worms online to be delivered to your door. I am not sure of their quality though. Can anyone else give any idea on their quality?
