iPhone Apps

I've been using two great apps on my iPhone the last while.

1) AccuWeather. This app will give a fifteen day forcast for anywhere in the world. So far it's been very reliable showing temp, wind speed and direction on a daily basis. It will also give an hourly forecast for any region you want with a radar pic and videos of weather forecasts. And it has Indices for different options such as Air Quality, Beach Going Index, Fishing and UV. And best of all it's free!

2)World Tides. Now this one is a beauty that again covers the world and has all major Irish Ports, It has a nice graph too which will show the tide levels and times for a few days ahead. Or a nice neat breakdown of the details. It will save recent results from searches too so it will have a few different marks tides ready at a glance. This one costs €2.39.

I have found using the two of these great and helps plan that next fishing trip. If it's to gather bait for work out weather for a location that's a good drive away it's so handy to have these to hand.

For anybody that used World Tides 2009 the guy has released a new version for 2010 called UK tides. This new App covers all of Ireland. It's a great App and very useful with the info spot on.

Dennis has an App based on solunar theory, we fished a couple of weeks ago in wexofrd and it was absoloutely bang on. More & better fish were caught during the best times on the graph.

Apart for the fishing benifits of the iphone the parrot hands free phone kit I got recently for the car hooks up to the iphone an you can liten to your music on the iphone on you way to fishing so they are the bizz, yea Bass virgin Im a show off

Hey if my wife wanted to show me how much she loves me with a pressie like this I aint going to trade it in. It is great in the car having your whole music collection with you. Unfortunately for the family it's all heavy rock

navionics gold is available for the iphone and it is excellent for all u boaters as good as a independent chartplotter...

do you know if the apps work on smart phones, as I've a HTC Vario Windows mobile 6 and would love to get an application like them

have to disagree with you about the chartplotter. i downloaded the uk ireland navionics charts
for 24.99, not a bad price. however the app is poor, there is no way to load your waypoints
into it, either from a file of by typing them in. You can save your current location
as a waypoint.

its no harm to have as a backup in your pocket but couldnt really be used for navigation

In a similar (and free) vein, I've found the tidal info at Mobile Geographics extremely useful. Apart from an iPhone app there's also a link at:

Once you've selected your nearest locality from the master index you can download & use the raw tidal data in formats for both Mac & PC computers. Currently have it running smoothly in both iCal on a MacbookPro and Mozilla Sunbird on a Dell PC for planning sessions.
