Co. Sligo Beach Session 27th January & 10th Feburary 2010

#1 Post by FisherKing »

People:Myself

Duration:27th Jan 2Hrs, 10th Feb 4Hrs

Tide:Filling tide

Weather:Cold windy, Sunny & Calm

Bait:Sandeel

Rigs:2 Hook Flapper

Results: 4 Sea Trout

Report: 27th January

Had a few hours to spare so rooted out a few frozen Sandeel & headed to the nearest beach to see if any Trout were on the feed, & make use of the licence. On arrival the wind was directly in my face & it started raining :x so exceptions were low. Cast out about 50 yards & after 20 minutes was soon into a wee Trout just under the 1lb mark followed by another slightly bigger 8) so turned out to be good wee session.

10th February

Woke to a lovely sunny morning with no wind & was soon on my way to new beach mark that I wanted to try for a while having seen a few Trout jumping during the summer last year. Set up quickly as the tide was just about to turn. The sea was very calm not a ripple, cast one rod at distance & the other about 30 yards out.

Fishing was very slow with not a bite for about two & half hours, then the rod tip started bouncing grabbed it & struck into something very big. The fish was putting up some scrap after a while got it to the shallow water & spotted not one but a double shot of Sea Trout 3lb & 3.5lb  , was delighted a few quick pics & off they swam to fight another day stayed on for another two hours but no joy but was happy with the double  .

Are those to upper fish not salmon smolts as their tail fins do not look like seatrout and the body has less spots.

you need a salmoniod licence to fish for seatrout and salmon either in rivers or the sea,and there lovely to eat, but not at this time of year, as they are just after spawning and will have used there fat reserves.also they are in decline, so lads will put them back to preserve the stocks.
