Dommez- I have used sandeel's quite a few times in the past with 0 success. People say they are deadly for bass but I have had no success. Stick to the worms man- if you can get them.

I will probably get slated disliking sandeels. But that is just my findings and every one has their own preferences.

Sandeels like any other bait can be venue/area specific ie. what works really well on one venue wont necessarily be so good on another.

Never had any success with them myself, but have heard they are deadly for sea trout in certain situations.

spot on scrob, they can be a lethal bait for the seatrout, and also a very good bait for the thornie's.

I've taken some pretty nice whiting to sandeel fished on long flowing traces. chop the head and tail off and secure to the hook with bait elastic.
Species 2014: whiting, coalie, pouting, codling, pollack, ballan wrasse, dab, poor cod, mackerel, grey gurnard, conger, ling, cuckoo wrasse, launce, common skate, bass, scad, garfish, blue shark

good for the usual suspects dogs, ray huss. work very well for whiting and you can take a fair share of dabs and codling on them at times. they can be a good plaice bait on there day too.

Personally I will use them again in certain situations but I think it is hard to beat a bit of mackeral for a general all round bait. There's not much I haven't caught on mack and it's both cheap and easier to hook than sandeel in my experience.

Sandeel are a very under-rated and under used bait. They are often deadly but as others have said they can be beach specific. On one Clare beach at the moment they are outfishing ALL other baits for bass.
There are many ways to present them, for bass I mainly fish them singley mounted on a pennel rig
For huss later in the year I will fish three with the bodies lashed together with elastic and the heads splayed out trident fashion.
For rays I will fish them in ones, two and threes or wrapped in squid on a long trace.
One of the most deadly forms of using them is to mount them on four feet of flouocarbon and a 3/0 hook and weighted with a barrel lead to spin off the rocks for pollack on light tackle
The Truth is often stumbled upon by men, most of whom pick themselves up and hurry along as if nothing ever happened.

I picked up a few mackerel last week for 1.50 a piece and they were a nice size so you'd get a few baits out of them. I don't think the price would be too different where you're buying them.
