First of all, where are you based?

Not a great time of year in a lot of the country unless youre lucky enough to be in Kerry, Cork or Waterford.
I require a tremendous amount of calcium

Where are you based?, the East coast will start hotting up in the next couple of months .I find big lug baits and rag when in season on 2 ft snood with size 2/0 or 3/0s when using a big bunch of worms, for smaller baits i use a size 2 or 1. I havnt had much luck with crab for bass but many people swear by it. Bass can be caught right under your nose but most of my better ones have been at mid range say 60 yards out. A beach with a good surf running is definatly better for bass and always be close to your rod they have a habbit of picking up the bait and making a b line for the shore so watch out for slack line bites.Good luck hope you break you duck.

youre not alone on your quest lad. I have been trying to break my duck for 6 years now. My mates have been at it a mere 2 and have hooked juicy silver surfers. That is the way it goes. When you least expect it you will get one... be prepared though.

Where abouts on the planet are you?

best thing to do is fish for something else, i caught my first one (6lbs 11oz) while flattie bashing, the second one i caught was while fishing for conger with a 6/0 hook and half side of mackerel, imagine my surprise when it was a schoolie of 39cm, the largest one i've caught (8lbs8oz) was while flattie bashing not far from where i caught the first one..

That's dead-on advice. Bass are a bit like the wimmin, the more desperate you get for them, the more they ignore you. :) And at the end of the day, lovely as they are, the Bass are just another fish not a life-transforming religious experience, so dont let them become an obsession. Been there. 8)
