SAI MA#1 ennereilly (every diva has its day)

#1 Post by eric »

People: 17

Duration:

Tide: 3-7

Weather: actually it was perfect

Bait: loadsa bait!

Rigs: loads

Results: technically i drew a blank  and one major hissyfit,

Report: well sirs and madams, its been a long time coming, i havent been fishing properly since the 27th of december due to a slipped disc and today was to mark the return of yours truley to competitive anglay. oh yes, sir, the hopes were running high of catching a few. i also had the pleasure of bringing the humpaumpa out for a test spin.

nice too see a few new faces racked up the beach, and at 3pm we a tossed our baits hopefuly into the sea with ambitions of going for gold! after a couple of fruitless casts later, i had my first fish of comp on the on the board, a good few fish seemed to be coming in around me too, mostly codling and coalies. it was reallly sporadic though and i was finding the work rate hard going, i was really determained to get a good start. i eventualy found a few fish and began taking singles of coalies at around 20 yards on straight mussel. 6 coalies all counters in 7 casts and i was pretty chuffed. from here on to the death i cant really say what happened. but i lost the fish and couldnt refind them, not one, nada. all around me fish were still coming in, rumours were fluttering around that j.p molloy had 57 fish in the first hour seemed innacurate, don on peg 1 also had 16 fish, and despite mark beatty's pesismism he had 9. it was a bloody nightmare.

experience taught me to keep at it, ive come back from disaster before to attain a reasonable result. more fish showed, headlamps were moving nervously to the beat of signing fish in. i was truley shagged come 7pm, mark beatty had the impossible to catch 20 something fish in the dying hour and half. sadly for me come half seven i still only had 7 fish and i did the unthinkable i packed up, i pulled a dbrock. ive packed up early before by mistaking time, but ive never given up willingly. i had a proper little diva moment, ripped up me card and trudged off. 5 minutes later i was all smiles again and headed back up to the car. i can honestly say in my match fishing carrer that will be the last time i do that

for the following people i commend you,

2nd- mb.3
3rd-rampant wreckfish
4th- al
5th-keith

Hadn't fished since last September so was really looking forward to getting out. It was a cracking day weather wise no need for half the layers I had on. My first couple of casts came back fruitless watching Kstaff next to me register a nice dab and a codling and both counters to boot. Marco drew peg 20 and he and I were constantly getting snagged but I managed to find some clean ground in close and eventually started hitting an odd fish. Between 5 and 5.30 I managed several counters as I was lucky to hit on a pocket of fish about 20 yards out. I tried tipping baits with sandeel mussel mackeral etc but plain lug seemed to work best so I stuck at it. As fast as the fish came on the feed they then went off. The last couple of hours were hard work but the rockling, codling and the odd coalie came in mostly in singles and a couple of late doubles were welcome sights.

Definitely lucky to land the right peg on the day.

howya lads
it was great day and a pleasure to fish with nice bunch of guys and have a bit of banter .fishing wasn't
going to plan at all, i was dropping fish nearly all day. so i changed rigs then more rigs still same thing
happening  whats causing this :?: i knew i had fish on when im starting to retreive but then there
gone half way in and they only thing i could think of was that my grippers were not breaking ,so when i
was reeling in my lead was bouncing all over the place. anyway as soon as i changed them the fish started
comming in better late than never
Well done to all the lads in the prizes

UP THE DEISE!!!!!!!

If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Tough going indeed but i was well pleased with my coaching of Don pegged beside me to first place :D I'm that nice a guy I selflessly fish bad on purpose to ensure the guy next to me wins! The last comp SAI fished in Ferrypoint was also won by the angler besdie me! So the lucky peg is the one beside me! :D

Weldone to all who fished great to see so many turn out, see ye in Arklow!
