Re: Bass being commercially exploited again!?
I will use the attached pdfs to print mine. The tackle shops I plan to bring the posters to are Tallaght Rod&Gun, Rory's, ABC, the new one on the Longmile Rd. and Southside Angling.
However there's no point in two people doing it so before I set off on my merry way can anyone tell me if they already have these tackle shops covered?
Thanks,
John D.

Re: Bass being commercially exploited again!?
Damn! I'm just thinking, I was only down in the Courtown sea angling centre on Saturday. That was a good opportunity to get the poster up down there.
Anyway, this is just an idea, but for anyone who can't travel but who knows a tackle shop owner reasonably well, the opportunity is there to send them an e-mail with the posters attached asking them to put it up in their shop!

DO NOT be disheartened - it is a true measure of the scale of the issue - keep your heads up -believe me when I say the poor reflection here is similar elsewhere in this countries structures and organisations - i've worked hard today to get nowhere!

Re: Bass being commercially exploited again!?
Lads, Ill print off a dozen or so and put them up, put one in the car too.
Has anybody tried talking directly to Tony Kileen/Conor Lenihan or Eamon Ryan specifically about this proposal yet?
These guys all have clinics. Why don't we start turning up at them to put our point across? Not a shouting match but a genuine discussion?

Re: Bass being commercially exploited again!?
Lads I've just read the article that tomaszek received in his mail this morning. I've just realised that this article represents an amazing opportunity for showing any ministers exactly what the consequences will be if the commercial bass fishery is reopened.
Use it. I've already sent a link to it on to Minister Killeen, Ryan, Cullen etc.
Here it is again if you want to use it or just read it.

Re: Bass being commercially exploited again!?
Another idea lads.
You should try and bring this whole issue to the attention of any B&B's, hotels or holiday home owners around the coasts that you know angling is important to.
For example, I have just e-mailed the manager of the bella vista hotel in Cobh, Co. Cork. I told him about the FIF's proposal. I attached the posters. I sent him a link to the petition. I sent him a link to Mike Thrussell's article on the world sea angling site. I also told him who to direct his letter to i.e. Minister Tony Killeen.
One of the Bella Vista's major selling points is self drive angling boats. A healthy bass stock is important to the future of their business.
I'm sure you can think of hundreds of other businesses that can lend weight to our argument.
All the best,
John D.

Re: Bass being commercially exploited again!?
Tommy, in an earlier post Patk said he would take posters for the Cork tackle shops.
Four posters (Cork Angling Center, Murrays, Sharkies, Halfway) - if he hasn't been in touch again I will take the extra four as well as the three I already requested.
Anybody going to do the tackle shop in Clonakilty??
If not then I will take another - although it will probably be the weekend after next before I get down that way.

Re: Bass being commercially exploited again!?
Hi guys,
Might be an idea to start a campaign on Facebook. Alot of "causes" do this and people can become a "fan" very easily. It promotes the campaign and also gives a stated number of followers.
Yoiu would be surprised how fast it would pass around the angling community and gather momentum and numbers!

Hi Tommy,
It might be an idea to start a new topic entitled "Bass campaign posters now available" or something similar and ask the moderators to put it as a sticky into several of the forums (Shore reports, Shore Q & A etc as well as the Angling News forum).

Re: Bass being commercially exploited again!?
Good idea seanie35 and what an even better idea from hottopic!
I also like the idea about putting the posters up in other forums.
To be honest I think this subject is lost in the section of the site that it's in. Too many people in my opinion don't take an interest in matters of such importance like this. I know they're free to do what they want but I'm sure if they really knew how this proposal might effect their future bass angling they would want to get involved.
I know I'm harping on about Mike Thrussell's article that Tomasezk received in his mail but boy does that give a really harsh picture of the way this proposal could effect Irish angling tourism.
I've sent a link to this article on to people in Failte Ireland and also on to people in the CFB, just to make them extra aware of how badly this is going to damage Ireland's reputation in the angling world.
All the best,
John D.

Re: Bass being commercially exploited again!?
Hi guys,
Another suggestion: Why don`t you ask for a meeting with each of the CEO`s of each Fisheries Boards, Marine Institute and the CFB. They are consulted regarding such decisions. They must give you an audience as they are state bodies. Also they have web sites too that can publisize the cause!
Get them behind the campaign

Re: Bass being commercially exploited again!?
Encase they didn't already know I've contacted all the upcoming angling show organisers and also the Irish Federation of Sea Anglers. I was just hoping to increase awareness with them. I also created links to the epetition for them and attached some posters that hopefully they will be able to display somewhere.

anyone else get this??
I refer to your recent email to Mr. Tony Killeen, T.D., Minister of State in relation to the fishing of Sea Bass.
Minister Killeen has requested that I email you to obtain a postal address for the purpose of written reply to your query.
I would be most grateful if you could email me back with this at your earliest opportunity.
Many Thanks,
Jonathan Thompson
