Bait fishing for bass on the beach

fishing for bass on the beach i hear they are usually on the second or third breaking wave so i have been casting accordingly. However at this distance 5-6ounce grips seem to be washing in further down the beach . If i cast beyond the surf am i in danger of by-passing the bass? Any solutions or different methods to try ?

I would suggest casting out a variety of leads on there own (no rig) in quick succession to find the best style for the location. Try grip leads with Longer and Shorter wires you can also adjust the angle of the wires (depending on sea bed conditions). You can also try different styles such as a big flat lead (get a hammer to a normal lead). I think Gemini or breakaway does a short of lead kit system where you can mix and match wires and leads quickly for the conditions otherwise take some pliers and bend and snip a bit. If the leads don’t stay put on there own then they will have no chance when a rig and bait is attached. Once you find a good configuration for the bottom conditions try it with you baited rig. You could also try reducing the drag on the rig (less hooks), small baits and thinner main line or braid.

Also bear in mind that a bit of movement isn’t always a bad thing but I can see that everything washing up down beach is not ideal! As for missing the Bass thats not my area but im sure someone on here will have the answer to where they are!

any bass fishing i do on the beach is with a max of 3oz with no wires and quite often no lead if fishing a mackeral head r somthing . If there is a surf they will hook themselves quite often but if it is flat they can be super wary and us a running trace. i use a barrel lead on the main line to a split ring and then the hook length, simple as that. hold the rod at all times and if the trace moves around so much the better. i am always surprised how close in they are. last march i was out with a pal on a storm beach in kerry. i was plugging wading to my knees and my pal was bait fishing. he had a bad cast which landed between me and the beach in like 2 ft of water and pulled out a 5 1/2 pounder. it is always the same and i dont think i have ever caught a bass at range. one other thing to remember is that the wave action is quite regular even tho it may look the opposite and that the bass will move laterally along the shore in these channels between the waves where the food is concentrated, forced into this space as a result of the waves breaking and the tow from the last wave that broke. not a very good explanation but i hope u gt the drift. so keep casting to different distances starting with 5 r 10 yards, u will b surprised
