North Connemara 27.01.10

#1 Post by saltydog »

People: mga vinnycorrigan & myself

Duration: 15:00-01:30

Tide: LW @ 21:20

Weather: mostly dry wind WSW F3

Bait: mackerel, squid, sandeel, wraps

Rigs: various

Results: Flounder, Coalies, Five Bearded Rockling

Report: Ventured out to Connemara to try & get a Turbot off the list for 2010. Vinny & myself were set up & on our second casts when mga arrived. Conditions looked good with a nice surf running in. Fishing was slow to start which we had anticipated as this beach dies over high water. when the tide had dropped about 2hrs I started picking up coalies then a 5 bearded rockling made an appearance. It took the guys a while to get off the mark with mga in next with a coalie. I manged another few coalies and a flounder. Vinny got going with a couple of coalies & mga had a couple of 5 bearded. meanwhile I was ticking over with coalies and another 5 bearded. vinny manged another 3 flounder bring his tally to 4 we fished most of the rise but no Turbot showed. mga pulled a flounder out last cast. Final tally was mga 2 coalies 2 5 bearded rockling 1 flounder vinny 4 flounder 4 coalies myself 14 coalies 2 5 bearded rockling 1 flounder. Vinny has some pics...

They are a bit scarce down in Cork at the moment - and those that are around are tiny.
Maybe the can't get at the bait with the plague of minature codling :?:
