Results: Cloughy - 1 Codling / Donaghadee - Codling, Pollack, Pouting

Report:

Went down to see if Cloughy could be a possible venue for a Club competition, Answer is, No. Plenty of space but 1 Bite between 4 Rods in 50mins left us feeling it wouldn't be that great.

Arrived at Donaghadee to find it packed, Good to see Al there, fishing had been slow, and besides a few bits and pieces we didn't get all that much.

I am going to give Cloughey a day in the summer to see what its like then. i am sure theres fish there, well i know theres fish there cause i didnt blank...... lol

Fair enough lads trying out a new spot. Drove that whole coast line today looks like there are a few crackin spots I'd love to try over the next lot of weeks.

Guys,guys,guys. WHY when you try a new mark do you name it on a public forum? You KNOW that Tom, Dick, Harry, Plotznan, Pieter, Ericcov, Captain Pugwash and his dog read these forums. If someone you know wants to know a mark they can PM you. Catching fish around our Northern shores is hard enough these days without helping the enemy clean them out.

Personally don't believe 1 3 Inch Codling would be enough to entice a trawlerman to drag a net up that beach, But each to there own eh?
Its up to individuals what they do, and do not share on the forum.

Well said Drew, I believe unless the mark was pmd or specialy shown to you by someone else to you that you have every right to name it..

I'm glad a few people do name marks they fish, otherwise the forum would become boring. Too many reports on here are Co. Antrim rock mark or Co. Down rock mark. If you are local to the areas you know the marks so who are you keeping them secret from? Don't know what you read in Drew's report, if anything it would suggest to leave fishing Cloughy alone which is informative and what a forum is about.

This is an issue that comes up from time to time on this site and can cause problems between members.
I have to agree with you bigsod on what you said above, if a mark or marks have been specially shown to you by someone else or told to you by someone in confidence then in this instance they should be kept quiet and not told to anyone else out of respect for the person or people who have shown you the mark or told you about it in the first place.
If a particular mark hasn't been specially shown to you or told to you by someone or you've found it yourself without anyone telling you about it then surely as long as you know that the person you are giving the information too can be trusted then there's no problem.
This can be a very touchy and sensitive subject for alot of us anglers.
As long as we try and respect eachothers points of view and opinions then there shouldn't be any problem.
I understand that on forums such as this one it's hard to know whose reading the reports and using the information contained in them and it's for this reason why I personally don't mention the exact marks that I fish and why I prefer to just name the area I have been fishing at instead e.g. Co.Down, Co.Kerry, Strangford Lough etc. - but everyone is different and it's up to each individual what they decide to do.
I can see where both sides are coming from and can understand the points being made.
We all share the same passion for fishing, let's remember that and not get too annoyed with the whole thing. Let's concentrate on what is important - catching fish!

would it not be easier to just pm the person who puts up a non specific location to ask where it is instead of starting a three page rant...................
if i cant identify the location from the photo's i just pm the person and have yet to be told it's a secret.......
fair play to those who take time out and go find these spots or we'd all be stuck on the same marks week in week out.

In this case the fishing was poor so I don't see the problem - it was a useful post for anybody thinking of fishing there - now they know they might be better off trying elsewhere (at least at this time of the year).

Definitely!!

In certain circumstances I would not name a mark - especially a bass mark. At some marks I have put in a lot of hours to figure out the stage of the tide that the bass are present and the most favourable conditions. So I am not going to make it easy for anybody that hasn't bothered to put in the effort to figure it out for themselves.

i think the trawlers actually push the beeter fish into the shore, any time i get decent codling and coalies in millisle is normally either on an easterly wind or when the trawlers are there. i think that beech could fish if you found the tractics or explored the beach a bit more.

They're not Trawlers you're seeing in November, they're dredging Dan... Ripping up the Seabed attempting to lift Queenies... They may scare the fish inshore a bit but they're certainly not targetting them. Upside: They're not targetting the fish Downside There goes the habitat.

Each to their own indeed but as Dan says this is a mark that needs developing and is the largest by a long shot along that coastline. Just because you caught one small codling in a couple of hours does not mean it's not a fishable mark. I spent every summer on that beach as a kid and although I never fished in those days I have been down a couple of times in the last year to try it out. All of us have spent many hours at well known marks and blanked sometimes.
Only last night we were at a well known Antrim Pier and pulled in about 3 dozen tiddlers between us and one dog. Very very disappointing for a mark that normally produces bigger fish. It ain't an exact science......

Ok, no more Teddy's out of prams but sometimes a little discretion goes a long way.... Many think that naming Marks on a Public Forum is ok, I generally don't agree with it, that's just the way it is. As I said previously, if you want to know a particular Mark then PM the person concerned. That's what I do and I gotta say that EVERYONE is very helpful.

I'm glad that you don't work in the Co.Down tourism office!
There's usually good reasons for people reacting to certain things and although I don't him that well, I do know that Fentster doesn't usually react often to things said on here very often so perhaps something has annoyed him which is why he said what he said in the first place.
As I said before this can be a very touchy subject to alot of us - including me (as if you hadn't already noticed! ) but as long as we all respect each others views and opinions and realise that there's usually a good reason for people reacting the way they do on occasions then there shouldn't be a problem.
As I also said let's not get annoyed about it and concentrate on what's important - fishing, we can all agree on that at least!

i found that mosgt of the fish caught aroung north down recently were actually better quality than the ones at east strand that night, the may be more fish and the chance of a bass up the antrim.... coast, but there is no reason there arent bass in around north down, after all they are caught in carlingford lough. but the quality in my view is defo better.

lol lol seen a trawler in the belfast lough today... id say plenty of those 10lb sea trout about now!!
