Co, Sligo Beach Mark between the 14th & 23rd Janurary 2010

#1 Post by FisherKing »

People:Myself & the Brother

Duration:3 HRS each day

Tide:Stranding & Filling

Weather:Cold, Dry & Foggy

Bait:Frozen Lug & Sandeel

Rigs:Two hook flappers

Results:4 Sea Trout, 3 Flounder

Report:

Had arranged to meet Zeke & pick up some fishing gear on the 14th so decided to try a few casts. My first session of 2010 started slow & very cold with not a bite for about 3 hours until my last cast before heading for home, I spotted a Sea Trout leaping out of the water about 5o yards from me. At this stage all that was going through my mind was might just stay for another hour  !! Not noticing the rod tip bouncing, I grabbed the rod & struck. What a scrap a Trout can put up!!-doing its best to throw the hook at the last minute, was very happy to have it landed a fine Trout of 4 lb, first target fish of the year 8) a few quick photos & back it went.

Returned back for another three sessions to the same beach mark a few days later but it was the brother who had the luck with 3 Trout just over the 1 lb mark, & before anyone asks (we have Salmon/Sea Trout licences). I didn’t get any bite, my first two blanks  .
I was determined to make my forth trip a good one & was soon into a small Flounder so blank saved could relax. Bites were coming fairly slow but got two more Flounder bigger than the first. The fog was getting bad at this stage so we packed up & headed for a good feed & a few cans of the black stuff!!

:D Lovely trout there, well done. Season round my local area opens a week today and I cant wait - and neither can the fish by the look of it, I've seen a few hopping already when I was out floundering on the calm days. Great sport as you say, and a welcome diversion from the Elusive Bass.... 8)
