Galway Bay SAC outing, Connemara 24/1/10

#1 Post by stevecrow74 »

People:Myself, Gara30, Dogie3131, Goldwing, Papa Smirff, chrisfeeney30, Handbrake , Ian, Norbert, Jim...

Duration: 1pm(ish) - whenever Doggie3131 and Goldwing left

Tide:small

Weather:pleasant but slight chill in the air

Bait:mack, lug, squid, sandeel were main baits

Rigs: various

Results:whiting, coalfish, whiting, dogfish, whiting, 3brd rockling, whiting, flounder, whitening, dab...

Report:
good to see a few new faces joining the club this year as well as a few old ones..
myself, gara and chris arrived at the mark to find the 2 mayo lads (doggie and goldwing), Ian, norbert and jim set up and fishing, but was rather surprised when they said nothing was caught..
wasnt long before more rods were set up and rigs went flying into the air.. papa smirff stayed on the beach.. i think it was something to do with him being embarrassed about his casting
Chris was the first off the mark with a whiting, and then norbert pulled out one too and slowly everyone (except me and handbrake) had a whiting, Ian pulled out a very nice flounder early on too, and later on pulled out an even nicer sized dab, i reckon around the 1lbs+ mark, slowly the banter turned to slagging as it does, but the lads went quiet as a female arrived on the scene to meet up with one of the lads....  and well impressed that the lads actually kept fairly quiet too.. nothing too embarrassing was thrown out there..
after a while the female left and it was starting to drop dark and bites started to come on with norbert catching a doggie, then whiting came in thick and fast, at one stage i didnt bother with the rod rest as the whiting were hooking themselves even before the bait hit bottom.. blank saved..
slowly lads started to head off and it was just the 2 mayo lads and myself gara and chris left to keep up with the whiting fest...
doggie3131 had a hit of something large (probably a 2" whiting     ) and conger trace went out... which he later caught a 3 bearded rockling.. well he says he did, but i didnt see any photo's of it
i think the lads have a few pics to put up later..
and i'm quite sure they will want to fill in their account of events of the day, i know doggie3131 will anyways,

Well done lads for making the effort, good to see new members joining welcome aboard lads. Great to see a couple of flats showing out there surprised no raymonds showed after our outing this time last year. Hmm female so she showed up then eh eh  :P  Would of liked to have fished it but had other duties to attend to. I'll let you all know the date and time for Februarys outing soon.
