Results:4 x coalies, 1 x 5 bearded rockling, 1 x flounder,3 x whiting




Report:Went to Greystones rocks to try a bit of fishing in daylight . I had my usual 2 rod set up , 1 in close and 1 at distance, both with 2 hook flappers, size 1 hooks, and baited with lug tipped with mack or squid.I had the place to myself and the steps was also empty. Did they know something I didnt, i wondered? .The distance rod started to nod straight away and i pulled in a small coalie,mid twenties cms. First fish in daylight in 2010, and blank avoided again, happy days . The bait was hit again as soon as it hit the water and i had a succession of small coalies to get excited about .The rod in close was not being touched so I let it out about 30-40 yds and waited for it all to happen .Then the distance rod went again but it wasnt bites just that stringy weed which was catching the hooks.Then i got a decent bite on the small rod and pulled in a nice flounder, who was very lively indeed,quick pic and he went back in,skimming on top of the water for a while as he went away .As it got dark the coalie bites died away and i found it harder to connect with those bites that i did get Maybe they were smaller fish that were too small to hook up ,or crabs,but then the whiting arrived and i had a few of those. One of them regurgitated a small fish, i'm thinking maybe a sea trout . He was a rather handsome fellow, so I was thinking of having him stuffed and using him as a prop in the future to make my catches seem bigger, what do you think??I tried a chunk of mack on a 1 hook clipped down at distance in the hope of a doggie but alas it wasnt to be . Lug tipped with squid seemed to work best . As the darkness fell and the tide dropped the bites faded away until i got one more fish, a 5 bearded rockling on the small rod, in truth he wasnt hooked but had got wrapped around the line.A small fellah, he went ballistic when i unwrapped him and then got into a small rockpool. As i was trying to pick him up , something in my head was telling me that they can give you a nip but i cornered him in the pool and flicked him back into the water .With hindsight I should have packed up then and went home as the next hour and a half was fruitless, but I didnt know that then ,so i stayed on imagining all sorts of amazing catches, some even over the 30cm mark .All fish were returned but there was one of those diving birds hanging around (i think he recognises me from the orange suit ) so i'd say their chances were 50/50,,,,,,,,,,,as Clint Earwig says,"Crows gotta eat too".

sure looks like a wee trout eyes - didnt think you would get them in saltwater at that size - I thought that even sea trout would still be in fresh water at that age?

oh, by the way eyes - did you check if that whiting had a salmon and sea trout license ??? it really should have had one if it was targeting them

That's cause he has used up all the good ones. Poor Mrs Eyes now spends hours after washing the dishes with a hair dryer!

I was always told to tell the truth , the whole truth and everything but the truth ,,,,,,,,,,,as for the tea towel,
1. theres a recession on so I have to cut them in half
2. Theres a water shortage so i only wash them every 4 sessions now

Dont mention the war ,,,,, Tea towels are a touchy subject in our house at the moment as the dirty one(only 4 sessions old ) i left in the garage by mistake was eventually found to be the source of the bad odour permeating throughout the house,,,,after me constantly denying that odour was anything fishy
