Galway Bay 22.01.10

#1 Post by saltydog »

People: Gara, stevecrow74 & myself

Duration: 16:00-21:00

Tide: HT around 21:00ish

Weather: dry clear with winds from the WSW F3

Bait: Fresh Mackerel & Squid

Rigs: Gara and myself just the one flappers.... steve multiple rigs :P

Results: Whiting, Poor Cod, Pouting, Cod, Coalies, Dabs

Report: Myself and steve being slightly hung over after a club committee meeting and compulsory drinking session. Decided on awakening to a sunfilled day to clear the heads with a session. Some impulse shopping in one of the local tackle shops was next on the menu and then after "checking out the prom"  we stopped off to pick up some fresh mackerel and some munchies. Back to steves to collect his gear Gara was there and said he'd join us. We arrived at the mark and spotted some cormorants and otters working the area, good sign. We set up to fish at mid-long distance. I was first in with a double shot of whiting followed by a coalie. Gara was next up with a coalie i think and a whiting, steve then got off the mark after some slagging :P with a nice poor cod. I had a fish on and was reeling in when bang got walloped look down to see one of the otters on my rig   we had our head lights on him as he stole my fish and lowered it in one go.... it was a busy enough session with fish coming regularly I had a treble shot of dab and two whiting. Gara had a dab also while steve got a couple of nice pouting. We were just thinking with the incoming tide rolling in on a nice swell that there might be a chance of cod. Sure enough next up was a small cod for myself Gara had one not long after. Was nice to clock up a few more species for the year and been a while since i was fishing with the two lads. With it being a Friday night and more fishing to be done we called it a day. Cant remember the exact numbers so the lads can fill in their count species were: Gara had whiting, coalies, dab, poor cod and a wee cod, steve had whiting, coalies, poor cod and pouting, I ended up with 6 whiting 4 coalies 1 pouting 1 dab 1 small cod
