Arklow 17-01-10

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me and Neil

Duration:5-30pm-10pm

Tide:going out according to Neil,,,,,,,,,but funnily enough we had to keep moving backwards

Weather:glorious evening, mild

Bait:lug, mack ,squid

Rigs:2 hook flappers and single hook clipped down

Results:lots of dabs, codling, whiting, a short spined sea scorpion and a doggie

Report:Stopped by in Ennereilly to pick up our bait but it wasnt fishing great there according to the lads who were fishing a comp, so we headed on down to Arklow. Another lovely mild clear night so it was a pleasure fishing .We set up 2 rods each and we were into the fish from the first cast, some nice Dabs.We were catching nearly every cast and as they were all going for the bottom hook I decided to just re bait the bottom one and leave the top hook alone to save on lug.As soon as i did this the next dab took the top hook  . Plenty of doubles to be had , mostly dabs, but also some codling and whiting. All the dabs were in and around the mid twenties cms. Neil got a short spined sea scorpion to add to the species list and later on he put out a large chunk of mack at distance which resulted in a large doggie,,,, we had just been saying how we hadnt got any in ages.A nice nights fishing ,,,,,,,,,the only drawback to this place is the constant boy racers going up and down the carpark, which now has plenty of ramps. We took turns checking the cars and there were a few canoodling couples there so we figured the cars would be safe enough, but its on your mind all the same. We left when I got to 20 fish,,,,,,,,didnt want to give Fishface the chance to catch up on me   ,,,,,,,,,though he did outdo me on the species tally

Fisherman's prayer:
God grant that I may live to fish, For another rainy day.
But when my final cast is made, I then most humbly pray.
When nestled in your landing net, As I lay peacefully asleep.
You'll smile at me and judge, That I'm "good enough to keep"!
