i fished there myself on saturday gerry and there was a lot of debris on the beach, lots of weed and large logs and empty mineral bottles. i did not notice a lot of fishing related rubbish 1 mack packet 2 coils of discarded line which i also removed, a nice fender for the boat and a few bait plastic containers you know the type that bait suppliers use, i dont know why they wont use newspaper it's easier to break down. all i can say is there was no one else on the beach when we were there up to 8.30 there was supposed to be a group fishing the area but they changed venue i will pm you the club to see if it's the same group you think left the litter you found.
my self and harry fished for about 4 hours and we did not have a single bite between us my first blank in a long time

hi john
we were on little ennerielly and you could see where the lads were fishing ,there pegs were
still on the beach ,those plastic containers are terrible ,newspapper much better for keeping
worms in maybe if people asked their tackle suppliers to change back to newspapper ,this would help
Still at the end of the day people need to bring their rubbish home or find a bin
Good on you Ger for cleaning up that mess. Clubs and individuals alike should learn to clean up after them, that sort of behaviour could have serious repercussions for all anglers in that local councils may ban fishing on beaches. Congrats on the result.
Myself and Alan, who incidently is a litter warden, fished off Rooney Point on Saturday.
Upon arriving we were met by a 'mountain' of discarded household waste, mainly beer cans and bottles and piles of used baby nappies blocking our way down to the beach. It was a horrible sight.
Agree, when anglers are fished fishing they should clean up after themselves.

it was the BIG ennereilly we were on gerry,
totally agree about bringing your rubbish home nothing worse. i dont buy bait myself so im not sure what shops supply these plastic food containers, but i think there is only one supplier of bait that uses them, mabee if they were approached with the possibility of a littering fine they might change there ways
ant bait suppliers on here might say what pack's they use to clear there names,
what do you use boycie

Have to say that's a rubbish point john The tackle shops are not at fault its the angler who doesn't want to bring home there rubbish..i think boycie uses driving license application forms to wrap up his bait
Congrats on the win Gerry and well done on the clean up.Speaking of rubbish, i usually have a crap result there,,,,,,,biggest fish i've seen there was the one in this sign

it's the bait supplier who is using them that is the problem if he supplied paper instead it would be broken up by the elements in no time . i say nip the i problem in the bud

how do you blame the bait supplier, who sells you a product,in a handy plastic container, of being the litter lout?its the tossers that leave it on the beach who created the litter!and how hard is it to bring it home?i love those containers!very handy when you dig your own,and i presume that those tossers have a bag or bucket to carry the bait onto the beach, how bloody hard is it,to put the rubbish back in the bloody bag!!!TOSSERS!!

i have no problem blaming the bait supplier as he is the root of the problem as far as i can see.
if he did not use the containers in the first place the TOSSERS would not have them to litter the beaches and piers with.
what the angling shops should do is put a50 cent deposit on the container and when you bring them back you get a refund
this might also help the supplier to keep costs down if the containers were returned

Not something I'd condone because I'm sick of this country where the majority pay for the sins of the minority. John has a point, under waste legislation where responsibility rests with the producer. But at the end of the day people need to be individually responsible for their own litter.

so you would blame pampers for making nappys, batcholors for packing there beans in tins, supermacs for putting chicken in boxes? a person buy a product and is responsible for the waste,if a person cannot be responsible for dumping their own rubbish then they should not breed!!

Those containers are handy, i use them for squid when i separate them out of the larger pack they come in.50 cent deposit would work better on bottles and cans, people wouldnt throw money away.

The rubbish on ennereilly noth/south can be pretty bad alright. I imagine a lot of it is rubbish washed ashore during bad weather, but unfortunately ya can't get away from the fact that an awful lot of it is angling related. Its a shame, gives the sport a bad name. Whilst I agree that it would be better if bait was only supplied in paper wraps, I think its the individual's responsibilty to take their rubbish home with them.
