Report: Had a good bit of bait left over from the Ulster Open, so picked up Chris and set off to try and tempt a Bass. Arrived at the mark to find some lovely surf running big rolling swells at the back breaking in to 4/5 nice tables on the way in. Two surfers were in the water when we pulled up but thankfully when we were still unloading the gear they headed off. We got set up and cast out I put a 3 hook flapper in the middle of the surf tables about 50 yards out. I was casting a lead on my other rod to tighten the line when out of the corner of my eye I spotted a rattle nothing major just a slight bang. Picked up the rod and and felt a nice bit of weight on the end. I could feel something strong pulling back I walked down the beach after it when i had it in close it started going back the way we'd just came. Chris had come over and grabbed the fish as i beached it as I was using one of my match rigs size 4 hooks and 15lb flouro snood. Was delighted to christen my new rod with Bass weighed in at 6lbs 14ozs quick photo then back he went had to hold him in the water for a few secs until he got his wind back then off he went. Chris had a good Bass bite but no hook up i had a more aggressive bite on the new rod again picked it up Bass on got him in to the shallow then gone reeled in to find a coalie on the top hook and the the middle hook had straightened out I was picking off a few trebles and doubles of coalies and Flounders. We fished the tide down the beach as it dropped Chris wasn't having any luck but he saved the blank with a coalie Next time we'll get there a few hours before high as i'd say the Bass had moved out 2hrs after the turn.
