Re: cobh deep water quay 11/1/10
You won't pick up shore rockling or 5 bearded, but what you will get are 3 bearded and bloody big ones. We pick them up while fishing for conger. An extremely short cast is all that is required. A few specimen rockling have been caught here over the years.jimmymellis wrote:nope no rockling ive never had them here to be honestenda pegger wrote:no rockling jim i am shocked

no not a junior comp, 20 senior anglers and 1 junior fished the westcork&district match at cobh.jimmymellis wrote:was that in the comp for the juniors during the dayrayman wrote:rayman wrote:its good to see the fishing picked up .we fished same spot on sunday we didnt have that many fish between us . the biggest fish was 30 cm. that was 21 anglers, amazing what 24 hrs does
lets put it into perspective, those fishing included the current irish master angler and world shore team captain, who has fished for the home nations team previously, last years munster champion and a previous munster champion, a recent irish world team member on several occasions, several members who are about to compete in the fish offs for the world team, members who have fished for the munster interprovincial team and a few who regularly fish the leinster league, along with at least nine lads who fish the munster closed legs every year, the only notable absentee was the current irish home international captain and jimmy smith winner, who couldnt make it due to work commitments..and many other less illustrious, but fine anglers in their own right took part.....now thats some group of juniors.......club sec sean o brien

Re: cobh deep water quay 11/1/10
Thanks for the inside track on the venue
ive fished this area on countless occasions since the mid 70s with great sessions during daytime and poor ones at night and vice versa..being born a stones throw from the venue and my family from cobh i"d have a fairly good idea on the venue! but thanks again.. regards sean

Re: cobh deep water quay 11/1/10
I'll be the first to say it - I PROPOSE JIMMY MELLIS FOR NATIONAL TEAM COACH.20 senior anglers and 1 junior fished the westcork&district match at cobh.
lets put it into perspective, those fishing included the current irish master angler and world shore team captain, who has fished for the home nations team previously, last years munster champion and a previous munster champion, a recent irish world team member on several occasions, several members who are about to compete in the fish offs for the world team, members who have fished for the munster interprovincial team and a few who regularly fish the leinster league, along with at least nine lads who fish the munster closed legs every year, the only notable absentee was the current irish home international captain and jimmy smith winner, who couldnt make it due to work commitments..and many other less illustrious, but fine anglers in their own right took part.....now thats some group of juniors.......club sec sean o brien
i'm serious.
Look at the credentials in the above quote, and Jimmy fair play to you, you put them all to shame.
With Jimmy leading the way i'm sure Ireland will win at the home nations and the world shore.
Anglers with Jimmy's knack for catching fish, bait selection ( how many of the above will admit to experimenting with pilchard oil they obviously dont want to succeed ), and choice of tides - i mean catching more fish than 20 anglers PUT TOGETHER, now that is amazing- these anglers only come along very rarely and should be utilized correctly.
Munster EGM coming soon, i only hope some of the delegates have the foresight to propose MR. JAMES. MELLIS as munster coach/manager.
