reducers for multiplier rods?????

#1 Post by need advice »

I read a listing a bit back on these and cant find it.

looking advice on why and what they are for. also the new rod i got has one shop said take rubber stop of reducer and place on rod end and no need to use. would it be smart to use as with on rod becomes 13-14 foot and seems strong enough to leave on and cast with.

i was going to fit reel arms length up rod and can you leave coasters on rod or should you take of every trip

A reducer is used to make the rod easier to use with the reel in the low position ( at the bottom of the rod and controlled during the cast with left hand ), if you are using the reel in conventional position then I would suggest that you do not use the reducer.

By moving the reel to the bottom of the rod, I find that it balances the rod better and gives me a better grip with my right hand which gives me more confidence to punch harder in the final stage of the cast.

The reducer is used to help the angler reel line back onto the reel when its in the low position. It isnt supposed to be used for casting.

i take it if reel lower down take reducer off before i cast and with left hand on reel and right hand on blank you then cast and after cast you put reducer on to put in rod rest and for winding in.

if i go for normal position with reel being controlled by right hand and no reducer at all. i was told to take rubber stop on end of reducer off and place on bottom of blank and just store reduce how do i get rubber guard of as it very tight.

just keep tryin to wiggle it off!! if youuse the reel right down at the very bottom of the rod you can still cast with the reducer in the rod ok.

no problem leaving coasters on the rod at all times, every now and then spray with w.d.40 as there is nothing worse than going fishing and your coasters will not tighten up. even carry a spare coaster with you.

even better once you have found the right position for your reel, fit a fixed reel seat much better than coasters.

as for the reducer you will not have any use for it with the reel fitted an arms length up the rod.... unless you want to get the rod higher in the stand to get over weed or surf etc. then it will be awkward to reel in.

If you use a reducer put some reflective tape on it. I'm prone to dumping it on the beach before casting with the tape on it I have no problem finding it after.

i use a 13' 3" rod fitted with a reducer, i have a reel seat fitted 6" up the rod. you control the reel with the left hand and punch the cast with your right.
if you don't cast reel down the butt i would suggest you learn. i have fished for about 28 yrs and never thought i would cast this way. but i learned to fish reel down and to pendelum cast about two years ago and have not looked back. you get greater distance, i find it awkward to cast reel up nowadays. give it a go. each to their own though.
