springy hook for rough ground??

#1 Post by m.b3 »

can anyone advise on a hook to use over rough ground that will bend out of snags when using 'bout 20lb/25lb. mainline? have used sea match aberdeens previous but they're too pricey! thanks.

I have straightened mustad nordic bends ref.4446B from size 2 to 2/0 using 15lb line, a fragile enough hook point though and wont last long on heavy rough.
Alot stronger but just as springy would be the kamasan B950u uptide gets my vote

hope this helps.

Mark,

Try a circle hook (not with an off set point) they are designed to be less snaggy, or try a float bead, both will help a little, at the end of the day get a fish on and it wont snag 8)

mustad blue aberdeens bend out easily. they are pretty cheap and i feel they are fine for most things but i wouldn't use them for anything particularly big and toothy.

the hooks for the rough are kamasam b950u and mustad vikings, keep pressure on them and they will straighten.

thanks people. appreciate it. i am sick of loosing hole pulleys in rough ground unnecessarily. i'll give some of the above mentioned a try. i have tried poppin up the baits Rockhopper and it works quite well in some places.

I'd agree with Mustad Vikings. They'll bend enough using 0.4mm line with a strong leader to get out of the rough but don't seem to completely straighten out when skull draging.
