People: myself & John
Duration: 1.30pm - 6.00pm
Tide: on the way out
Weather: windy & cold
Bait: fresh lug & crab
Rigs: two hook flapper, two hook scratching rig & pennel.
Results: 3 codling, 3 whiting, 2 coalies
Report: the plan was to get out 3 times over the xmas but didn't fancy chancing the roads to go anywhere. so with one day to go before i went back to work i had to go nothing was going to stop me. driving through greystones looked under the arch to the beach and all you could see was massive waves breaking onto the beach. when i left home it was nice and calm no wind. got out of the car to be faced with very windy (on shore) conditions. this wasn't going to stop me John wanted to try somewhere else or called it a no fishing day. not a chance 6ft waves couldn't care if they were 60ft once i could get a rig with bait in the water i was fishing. first cast and john got a codling and a coalie that soon put a smile on his face. the wind died down within a hour or so. The waves keep crashing in by 4.30pm or 5.00pm the waves no longer crashed in on top of the line. Bites were slow all day with baits coming back untouched mostly but still happy with the result. John 3 Codling, 2 Coalies & 1 Whiting. While i finished on 2 whiting.
Happy new year to all.

Well done on catching the fish, its tough going this time of the year

Well done at least you gave it a go, if you had gone home youd have been wondering what might have been. Were the codling any size?

The codling ranged from about 20cm's to 30cm's. They were nice and plumb too. Didn't measure them as wanted to ensure we got them back safe and sound so i can catch them in a couple of years again.

Have you caught any fish yet this year? You sound like Normans mother from Psycho staring out the windowfishface wrote:yes dave it is grand to look out the window at the sea
