People:myself and nickcamp24
Duration:4ish hours
Tide:rising
Weather:NW wind, calm
Bait:lug, razor, mack
Rigs:flappers
Results:coalies and a whiting
Report:Decided to try a beach i havent fished in a few weeks.. after a 1 hour ish walk from my house and a cliff hike we arrived at the mark. Flappers with various baits were cast out ..after about 5 minutes i got a nice bite on my rod, turned out to be a coalie. A little while later i got a stronger bite and it turned out to be a double shot of coalies. Next it was nicks turn..he got a coalie. We decided to move to the main beach of the area. Again baits were cast into the small surf..it was very quiet here nick got a little pin whiting and that was it.
I know that the flounder leave to spawn around this time of year but anyone know why there is a mass clear out of them from galway...all my usual flattie marks anyway?
Anyway was a nice session..enjoyable and a nice change of scenery from my usual spot..havent been in such a peaceful area in ages..so quiet was unbelievable!

Thanks bigsod! Really having to work for any fish the last week, apart from little whiting! Was hoping for a few flats though!

Re: silverstrand galway 4/1/10
chris i think its a combination of the clear out to spawn and maybe a hanging round in deeper water (relatively) due to the cold
the beggar wouldnt want to go burying himself in the sand only to be frozen into it in an hours time with the tide heading out - my 2 cents
whatever about crappy fishing - fair play to you and your walking to these spots - must give you a lift somewhere soon if these roads ever improve

all the flounder have dissappeared in our spots too,i agree with corbyeire the water is too cold and has pushed them out into deeper water, but it is around the time where they would go out to spawn anyway.see there still getting caught on the east coast tho.

Re: silverstrand galway 4/1/10
cheers brian! I was thinking about more and there isnt much surf at all and the water is extreamly clear..combined with the cold water and the fact the go to spawn around now must be the reason! With the easterly winds there should be a better surf along the east coast which would put some colour to the water too...Anyway they will be back! Let me know when your going somewherecorbyeire wrote:chris i think its a combination of the clear out to spawn and maybe a hanging round in deeper water (relatively) due to the cold
