Bray Harbour 03-01-10

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me

Duration:5pm-10-30pm

Tide:low at 7pm approx

Weather:cold biting easterly wind,

Bait:mack and squid

Rigs:2 hook flappers

Results:2 codling, 4 whiting, 1 flounder

Report:Couldnt believe it when i arrived in Bray,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,no snow or ice anywhere   ,,and me hardly able to get out from my own road in Clondalkin  .
xmas 09 037 (Medium).jpg
I set up near the end of the pier with the tide still going out and settled into trying to watch for bites in the breeze, not my favourite occupation  Didnt catch the first fish, a codling 24cms, till about 8-50pm, by which time some other headers, i mean anglers had arrived and set up , so i let out a whoop to celebrate my first tiddler of 2010. Yes i'm not ashamed to say it ,,,,,,,,,,i did celebrate all of his 24cms   ,,,,,,and guess what :?: ,,i even took a photo i was that chuffed. Only problem was that i hadnt got my usual camera with its dummy setting especially for me,,,,,,,,,I couldnt find it and had to bring my "good" one that confuses me to bits :? :? :? ,too many choices is a bad thing in my book(which unfortunately isnt the 2010 Sea Fishing Handbook     ). Anyways we all started to catch a few fish with the tide rising, next came a couple of decent whiting, followed by a flounder. I was hoping to pick up a 5 bearded rockling at the low tide to add to the species list but it wasnt to be,,,,,at least for me ,,,,,but one of the other lads, whos off this site, showed me how to do it ,getting doubles and trebles  Ended up with 7 fish which gets me off the mark for 2010,they werent exactly specimens, but there again Ted , its not exactly the 60's or 70's, so we can only catch whats out there.

Thanks Gerry, that pic was taken with the "good" camera that i cant use, dont ask me what buttons i pressed, i downloaded the instructions off the net and now im even more confused   .It was cold alright,,,,,,face and fingers were freezing but otherwise nice and toasty in the suit, only got cold when i had to take the hands out of the pockets. Fishing was really picking up as i was leaving and the moon was rising, but work the next day and all that

Jesus Dave I don't want to be seeing pics of the South side of Dublin on here if you don't mind! I had a good few Five Beards last month so they are about. The slimy little whiting bait robbers!

Well done Dave for getting out in that weather and catching a few fish.
I think if I looked out my front door and saw that scene I would turn back and spend the night in front of the fire.
