People: Myself and friend
Duration: 5:30-10pm
Tide: Low water 8pm
Weather: Mild and cold
Bait:
Frozen crab
Rigs: 2/0's Pennels and 2 up clipped
Results: 16 coddling
Report:
It was nice to get out, not the most ideal of tides but I felt that we should pick up something in darkness. It was action nearly all the way. I had my 2 biggest coddling in the first hour (see pics) and it was tiddlers ( 25 - 30cm) mostly thereafter. Not so sure even with the forthcoming cold snap that things would pick up as I would have expected better quality fish to be showing at the this time of year, however I hope to give it a bash again next weekend. I had 12 in total mainly in that I was casting that bit farther but its amazing what you can pick up over at ferrypoint at low water. I only lost 1 trace but managed to pull in about 5 more, most of which did not seem to have been there for to long, all the leads were taken home. Not a coalie or whiting to be seen, although if I had brought some mackeral it may have enticed them.
if only those buggers over 3lb would turn up.

Re: Youghal Ferrypoint 12/12/09
its class when you can just wander back and pick up your trace at lw - 4 more - what a bonus
as said above 16 fish is 16 fish - especially after youve been blanking regularly

Awe well, the fisheries ministers have done it again, no cut in the the cod quota for 2010. THat's great seeing that our shores are paved with the species (according to an Irish lobbiest), why would you take on any scientific advise when you can carry on regardless. Soon even the tiddlers will be a rare catch for shore anglers.

Re: Youghal Ferrypoint 12/12/09
Man, I'm truly sickened reading this. I had the only chance I'm going to have in a long while to get out tonight, and I couldn't decide between Whiting Bay and the Ferrypoint. Which one did i choose? Whiting Bay, naturally, and for the small cost of near hypothermia I blanked utterly. Believe me: a small codling is better than a big nothing.
Next time, I'm going to read the forum before heading out ....

Re: Youghal Ferrypoint 12/12/09
John,
THe good citizen that I am I rolled them in a ball and will fish them out of my bait bucket to the bin over the weekend. I suppose I should have worded my report a bit better, but was delighted to get the leads as they were all in good nick. I gave up recycling other peoples traces and trace bits after crack offs. Only trust those traces that you make yourself and the swivels and links that you buy yourself, otherwise your asking for trouble.
