Wexford 19th december 2009

#1 Post by bigsod »

People:Me

Duration:4:45am till 11am

Tide:Rising

Weather:Cold and calm

Bait:Lug, mack, crab, sandeel, squid

Rigs:2 hook flappers and 1 hook clipped

Results:Flounder, dabs, whiting, codling, coalies and rockling

Report:I havent been out fishing in a while as i was away in england so i decided to head out this morning.I had my alarm set for 6:30 but i wasnt sleeping well so i got up at 4 and headed to clones beach in the hope of some decent sport. I got pleanty of sport alright but nothing of any size with loads of doubles of dabs and flounder, and the odd codling, whiting and rockling. At 7:30 i decided to move down to ballymoney and after a quick cuppa i was fishing again with sport slow at first but then the coalies came on the feed as well as a few codling but again all small. In the last hour i started to get some half decent dab and flounder, most in and around the 25-27 cm mark, not huge but bigger than the flatties earlier. At 11 i was out of bait and decided to call it a day even though i was tempted to drop into Courtown angling for more bait, but tierdness got the better of me  .It was good to be out but id say the sea was too calm, a bit if surf might have got a few bigger fish feeding.I forgot my camera so no pictures, just as well i didnt get any biggies so

Jesus Sod I only get up at that hour for a newspaper  Did you get any decent whiting for a feed? I took a load home the other night and fried them up. I was well impressed I tell ya. Not throwing any more of them boys back.

Cheers for the report I'm fishing that way in two weeks so watching out.

well they are commonly known gob shites who stand on either end of a football pitch trying to avoid been hit by a piece of leather which has an inflated bladder inside of it

the uncommon ones would be of the whiting variety that are at least 30cm in lenght

Oh them ones ha! Got them out at distance on Whiterock. And they were all 30cm exactly believe it or not! Still can't beat my PB on the little feckers.

i find whiterock a good spot for them aswell distance it the key  i would normally use a single hook cliped down with a double sandeel tipped with squid at around 250/ 280 yards
