North Connemara 17.12.09

#1 Post by saltydog »

People: mga, vinnycorrigan & myself

Duration: 14:30-00:30

Tide: HT @ 18:00

Weather: Clear and Dry NE breeze

Bait: Mackerel, Sandeel, Squid, Wraps, Peeler & Whiting

Rigs: Various

Results: Doggies, Thornies, Whiting, Coalfish, Poor Cod & Long Spined Sea Scorpion

Report: Had the day off so finally managed to tempt mga out for a session headed out to North Connemara for a change of scenery. Myself and vinny were just setting up when mga arrived. Vinny was on fire hauling in doggies to beat the band i was picking off a few doggies and then mga got in on the act with a few doggies. Whiting were starting to show as the light went and vinny was still hammering away with the doggies all three of us had multiple hits where the fish let go right at the waters edge was weird never seen so many times where the fish was just holding the bait you could see them let go at the last minute. Just as mga was packing up (around 07:20) i tried some fresh whiting for bait with Ray in mind. Sure enough after a quick soak i managed a small Thornie. mga had just left when vinny also using whiting as bait got a nice hit and pulled in a very nice thornie showed 5lbs on his scales but i don't think they were accurate mine were in my jeep i reckon it was a good 6lbs. Vinny then got a few coalies and long spined sea scorpian the whiting were now around in good numbers. I was getting a few double dogs and whiting dog doubles. It was a very busy session vinny must got close on 40 fish he can add his tally as i lost count on my own let alone his....

Vinny (correct me if i'm wrong) finished with 25 plus dogs, 5 coalies, 5/6 whiting, 1 long spined sea scorpion, 1 poor cod and 1 thornie.

mga (correct me if i'm wrong) finished up with 3/4 dogs

I finished up with 15 plus dogs 15 plus whiting 1 thornie.

Enjoyable session. Great to dust off the rods again after a little break :P . Nice lookin' thornie Vinny. I had just left in the car when Salty called to tell me about Vinny's thornie. I thought I had just left at the wrong time

Hey Vinny, I hope you realise the stress you're putting that little lad through in the last pic
