the coalie left a bit to be desired in terms of size, we managed an 8 pound ling
from deeper water, best eating fish of the lot!

I think there was colder than we all anticipated. I'm still happy that we managed to get out on the boat this winter though. Cheers!

id agree with that tommy cold we can do gales and storms no. its brialliant to get out in the winter pity the fish wernt playing ball im sure you all expected a few cod especialy as they seem to be out there in good numbers. but in winter it just good to be able to get out for a few hours. pity the numbers were not up for this trip as its quite expensive to pay for a charter between a small group but isuppose with it been so close to christmas a lot of lads the way things are would find it hard to justify spending 100 euro on a fishing trip at home. fair play to the lads that did go if this cold spell stays have to try a trip out of kilmore over the holidays

I still think the price is tiny compared to the cost of owning and running your own boat,
what is the depreciation alone on an outboard, let alone a boat capable of getting out
to sea in safety and comfort? Most people dont think like this though, preferring to
pay a million euros for a house they could rent for a thousand a month
Winter fishing is tricky as there is light commercial fishing there
and they land great catches, yet the same rod and line methods that work for the
other three seasons dont seem to work well

yes the cost is big john especialy if your boats too big to tow i have to moor it also means storage for the winter
but when its in the water the freedom to go fishing for as long as your let lol outweighs the urge to go to kilmore and charter i still go and charter while the boats out of the water i find it hard to stand on a beach or pier catching baby pollock ect since i got the boat.i like to watch the skippers and try and steal a few marks off the gps this in turn makes me feel im getting value for money even if i never go to that part in my boat i can pass them to one of my friends who do
iv spent thousands on charters what made me buy my own was after booking a boat only 4 showed up and it cost 100 each
instead of 50 this was the point i was making i dont have to depend on anyone to go fishing with me and if they dont show up i just go out on my own and it doesent cost me double
